Awesome movie! Very well done and great backstories on some of the non elite riders too. Nice to meet a few folks there too (Drawdy's and Bill V). Gotta love the guy that was riding in his shop shirt ;D

Just wanted to tease those that have not seen or been to a cross race. I went to the last one here at Augusta State and took my camera gear to shoot the race. Here is a pic of one of the ACC guys. Its really a cool event and everyone should go and attend. By the way to those who raced last time, I was the guy laying on the ground just below the baseball field at the little uphill switchback. thanks chaos Just looked it up. this is a one night event, no second chances. Regal Augusta Exchange 8:00 this Thursday night. Just a note to all. If you have not checked out the link from the original post, this is a LIVE event that will be broadcast throughout the country into select movie theaters. It will start out with a discussion before and after the actual movie with Lance and David Weins (I believe). That is why its a one night event. You can get tickets at the box office now at the Regal 20. Do not have to get them online, but that is an option.

I am no Guru on technique by any means but here is my two cents. You seem to have part of the equation figured out. Getting forward on the saddle gets more weight forward and on the front wheel. Also add to that bending (crouching) over or at least towards the frint wheel, again to get the front wheel weighted. Next I often, in this position twist the grips towards me which almost feels like pulling me up the hill but helps me to keep pressure down on the front side. You have to be carefull as to how much weight you move forward as you do not want to unweight the rear too much and loose traction on that end defeating everything. I ride a hardtail so this is what I do and it can be different on a full suspension. Just experiment some. If all else fails go visit a local shop and talk about a different tire for the rear that will hook up better. Or if you are riding a full suspension talk to them about the best setup for your rear shock (and front shock for that matter). Anyways thats my .....ok a few more than two cents.....but thats what I can offer Tom WOW...I just read my reply and well....thats more for just regular uphills So anyways....my advice may not be exactly what you were looking for.....sorry for confusion

Heres a link to a seemingly simple solution to drainage on some of the trails (Esp. FATS) that seem to be talked about alot. For example that root drop (downhill) or root climb (CCW) on Skinny that needs attention. Anyways its from NEMBA (like SORBA - but New England) and the repairs were done in CT. Check it out! Diamondback Response Comp Hardtail. Rockshox Tora Fork, BB5 disc brakes, Bontrager Seatpost, Shimano M520 Clipless pedals, Ergon Grips, Planet Bike Gel Saddle.....and a wish list of parts that I do not have yet. Its a tank but for $150 I am not complaining. I think I have spent more on upgrades than what I paid for it so far Anyways, thats my ride. Tom

OK let me explain. I rode brown wave this morning going CCW and right before you get to the view of the river, at the log "cut through" there was a tree that fell over from above where that log is cut. It is leaning downhill almost exactly on line with the existing log. As I pulled up to it there were about 4 limbs draped across the opening to the cut through in the log. I walked through with my bike very carefully as this tree looks like it can crash down at any time onto the trail or somebody. Once I got through the leaves and branches I spent some time to bend back/break the limbs blocking the trail as best as possible as I don't have a handsaw. In my opinion that tree needs to be chainsawed down for safety. I am sure the next big wind or storm FATS gets it will be completely on the ground. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up if they ride out there. Just ride under it and don't stop (really dont think anyone will camp out under it but hey......).

As a tribute to a lost childhood friend in one of the towers in NY I have added some new accessories to my bike. Also went to a ceremony at the Govt building in Evans this morning and have to say hearing a lone bell ring brought me right back to that morning and remember hearing and watching the events unfold unknowing that a friend was in the towers. I had lost touch with my friend and found out later he lost his life in the second tower to fall. Just wanted to pay tribute to a lost childhood friend. Tom

Rode Great Wall this morning and guess what......It is still there. Had to stop and take a look. Maybe we should put up cogs on the trees where a bike has been left like the crosses you see on road where a fatality has happened. When you ride by one of the cogs you could leave an offering to the bike gods that this will not happen to you.

Great Idea!! I lost a childhood friend who worked in one of the towers. Too many times we forget what we have here in the US. I know that I for one will join in on this tribute. The folks that were lost in that tragedy and others lost in war for the life that we have here should be remembered whether they lost their life or not. I have a few friends who have or are currently in Iraq defending our country and small gestures or large are appreciated. Maybe a ride could be arranged where a small donation could be made and then donated (in the name of SORBA) to a place like Fisher House that helps the families of injured soldiers who are in the hospital after coming home early from the battlefield. Just a thought, but I will be looking for a flag to take along on my rides or maybe a sticker to attach to my bike. Again, love the idea.

You can pick up blaze orange safety vests for super cheap at wal-mart. You can also find athletic clothing in blaze orange; I know UnderArmor makes some stuff, I have a shirt of theirs. Under Armour and Nike both make a blaze orange tshirt that is non cotton. I carry both at Sports Authority if anyone wants to get them. I do not have the vests but you are right, Wally World is a great resource for those. Tom

Sounds like a full list of plates there today. Hope the two florida riders (one with a cool 29er single speed) had a good ride. After I left this morning I must have saw at least a dozen vehicles heading up 28 towards FATS. I am sure a few were the crew from Charlotte as there were a few cars in tandem, one with a trailer with a few bikes. Sure did seem to be pretty busy. Glad I was able to help the one rider with some water out of my bladder (hyradtion bladder that is...sheeshh what were yall thinking LOL) for his ride. Anyways hope all had a good time out on the trails.

I am assuming you are going to drive UP from Sav? FATS is just outside Augusta GA. That would be an approximately 3 hr drive from Sav. Not sure if you were aware or not. And forgive me if you already knew that FATS in not in Sav. Also the weather is looking pretty bad for the next few days so FATS will (may be) closed or at least really wet and the suggestion would be to not ride when wet. There are many other trails in the area though that are great so check the front page and the trails section for other options. Enjoy your ride wherever you end up, have fun.

OK aside from the fact that chilleanrastabilly quoted and entire Phish song here...... ;D ;D I would not be opposed to a fee at all. As some have said it would help to ensure that the community helps to maintain these areas and not just take. I would just hope that the annual pass option was available. $3 (or $5) a visit would get costly over a years time. But for those that just use the areas occasionally this would certainly bring revenue as long as there was a way to enforce payment. I have seen way to many times where people just take the envelope, hang the tag on the mirror and stuff an empty envelope back into the box. Trust me this is done regularly. The solution would be to somehow have a regular or at least occasional presence of a FS officer riding through these parking areas to make everyone honest. Without this I fear that this whole idea is a moot point. My 2 cents anyways

Here's a karma for your good deed! John, thanks. Thats cool. I wondered what those were ;D ;D As for giving assistance either mechanical or first aid wise, I have worked on bikes for years and used to work in a shop back home. As for first aid...its been about 8 years since I have been certified but TRULY understand the idea of giving assistance in the form of advice first. Trust me no one needs to be sued for doing a good deed and I dont plan on that. Anyways, thanks again for your kind words and the Karma. Tom
