Just a reminder that Deer hunting season opened in Aiken Co. Aug. 15 and will open in Edgefield, McCormick, Abbeville, & Greenwood Sept. 15.
Time to put away those white shirts and break out the orange.

I thought that wasn't until October... did I miss something? It's too hot to strap on a bunch of camo and sit in a tree for hours on end... right?

no, rifle, seasons open in the low country. I took him down in Holly Hill, SC. One of the deer out of the swamp so he was no big boy, but the first buck i've seen the past two seasons so I had to shoot.

When hunting season starts, what CSRA trails are the safest.

All trails are safe during hunting season. It is important to wear blaze orange. Use bike lights if you are moving in low light conditions. Carry a flashlight in case you break down and have to walk out. Hunters know deer don't carry flashlights. Please don't ride trails closed for hunting.

Good advice Wayne and I'm glad you fill safe. Another question, are there any trails in the CSRA that prohibits hunting.

Baker Creek and HKSP don't allow hunting. All trails on public lands in SOUTH CAROLINA are hunting free on Sundays. They can hunt on GA on Sundays.
Canal in Augusta does not allow hunting.
I feel totally safe riding in the woods during hunting season. I wear orange. I've been riding thru hunting season since 1991 and never even thought for a second I was in any danger.
Riding a road bike is more dangerous than riding a mtb during hunting season based on my own experience and what I hear from others about getting hit by cars vs. being shot. I know no one who has been shot. I know no one who has "almost" been shot. Perhaps others do. If so, please share those stories.

Dang! I thought that might have been my momma for a second! Just Kidding. What are the thoughts of the safety yellow vests used on construction sites for riding during hunting season?

Yellow is bad in the fall season.. October etc.... all the leaves turn bright yellow. Also avoid wearing jerseys that have white on them. and lastly... don't wear this helmet

There is no substitute for blaze orange.
You will realize this when you ride with someone that has it on. When you simply glance in their direction, you will see it everytime.
Been there, done that.
Blaze orange. No substitute.
And if you have on white, you should be shot.

You can pick up blaze orange safety vests for super cheap at wal-mart.
You can also find athletic clothing in blaze orange; I know UnderArmor makes some stuff, I have a shirt of theirs.

Under Armour and Nike both make a blaze orange tshirt that is non cotton. I carry both at Sports Authority if anyone wants to get them. I do not have the vests but you are right, Wally World is a great resource for those. Tom

I have hiked and biked in a bunch of states and have always felt safe out in the woods during hunting season. Wear orange and show hunters the respect they deserve. They have every right to be out in the woods enjoying their sport as we do ours.
I tend to avoid the hours around sunset and sunrise. Does Mistletoe state Park allow hunting?

State parks do not allow hunting.
I (use to) do a lot of night riding in the winter/fall after the time changes. No need to worry about hunters then.
Deer don't typically have HID headlights...

I went hunting tonight at FATS and saw 5 riders-three singles and a couple. The closing of FATS should include Closed for Hunting signs at the trailheads.
