Once again, there is an abandoned bike left on the Great Wall trail. It's located about 2 miles from the parking lot going clockwise...just before the big climb out going counter clockwise. It has a flat rear tire and is missing the right handlebar grip. If it's yours, please retrieve it as soon as possible. If anybody else wants to remove the bike and hold on to it for awhile to see if anybody claims it, please let me know who has it. If noone claims it within a few weeks, we'll donate it to a charitable cause. Sorry about the picture quality. My camera was in my backpack near the cold water hydration bladder, so the lens fogged up when I took it out. Be safe!

That thing looks like a death machine. Look at how the bars have rotated back - the brake levers are pointed at the sky!
Bars probably weren't tightened well when it was assembled at the Super department store. Or it was just plain put together wrong.
Another reason to buy a quality bike from one of the great local bike shops.

That "bike" has been there for probably three or four weeks. The first time I came across it, I did the correct NMBP thing and scouted the area for a potential victim. Did not find anyone to give MTM to (My SO was several minutes behind me), so I gave a shout out, then kept riding.
I have ridden the GW probably a half dozen times in the past two weeks, and must admit that each time I pass that NEXT bike, it gives me the willies...

Just for fun I googled "Next Breakpoint" (gotta love that name), and sure enough, there were about 1000 links to Walmart. This is actually the "Breakpoint Pro" model, sells for $109.84. Shipping weight is 44 lbs, no wonder the owner didnt walk it out of the woods. Based on the bold graphic stating "aluminum series", I checked to see if Walmart sells the carbon series, but it wasnt on the website. I would think that a carbon fiber frame would bring the weight down to a spry 40 - 41 lbs.. Probably costs at least $15 dollars more, though. And what's with that seat?

They were going for the Orange County Choppers look with the bars rotated down. Isn't this like the 3rd bike found abandoned on the Great Wall? Sounds like the trail is living up to its name!

Seat has one of those "high-tech" gel covers w/ draw string. I am suprized imnav8r didn't put it on his bike I believe this is the 2nd bike on GW and a kids bike was left on Bartram.

Rode Great Wall this morning and guess what......It is still there. Had to stop and take a look. Maybe we should put up cogs on the trees where a bike has been left like the crosses you see on road where a fatality has happened. When you ride by one of the cogs you could leave an offering to the bike gods that this will not happen to you.

Bring it to the Canal Crown race this Thursday, and let's force JT to race it. I'll volunteer to fix the flat tire beforehand.
He may still win....

I plan to go by there later today and hike down to get it since it's been there so long already. I'll fix it up a bit and use it as a loaner bike at the Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day event held October 3rd. After that, we can donate it to a charity or give it to a kid who needs a bike.

Abandoned bike removed from trail. I'll make some repairs to it and get it rideable. If anybody wants to claim it, they can have it after the Take a Kid Mountain Bike Riding Day event.
Be safe!

The aluminum is a step up from the Cast Iron Series. There was an article on VeloNews a few weeks ago about them experimenting with a steel-reinforced concrete model, because it would allow lots of options for shaping. There were some quality control problems however....
