Except for a handfull of downed trees, Wine Creek Trail is clear and open for business (by my standards anyway).

Now that's a cottonmouth! Most people would not have been satisfied until they clubbed it to death with a log or rock. Runners beware.

"Brilliant" quote of the day: “I certainly think bicycle paths are a good idea,” he said. But “for all I know, there is some right of way that goes through people’s houses, you know, and all of a sudden they are going to be living in their house and suddenly a bicycle will run through it.” Justice Stephen Breyer speaking in the Supreme Court’s 8-1 ruling in an obscure Wyoming land dispute that could result in the loss of thousands of miles of bicycle trails. I am looking for the Savannah River to turn into blood any day now.

I don't know how much it's supposed to rain Saturday, but the creek on 613B was not safe to cross a day after heavy rain a few weeks ago. There is a large Beech tree laid across the creek about 100' upstream for the adventurous. WCS - backtrack to the paved road, turn right to Upper Mill, turn right to 283 and pick up your route again.

Tried to get to FS 618 via Turkey Creek. Ran into this about 100' into the trail... [ [/URL] The first bridge is under there somewhere.

Did you save the log that has "T+J" in it? Someone I know carved that many years ago. I need to go get it. As always, your hard work is greatly appreciated. I hope to enjoy the Modoc-Turkey connector ride very soon.

I rode Wine, Turkey & Modoc on Sunday. Wine was the only trail that did not have new trees down. Maybe January ETTR?

It's not just another tree down on Modoc, it's the "Lovers Beech". The top is a great big mess in the trail.

Finally had the chance to get a look at WC today. Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. There are about 6 large trees that need saws, pretty evenly spaced along the entire length. One large tree at about 1 mile from Key Rd is the most difficult to climb over. The worst part is that in several places the trail is starting to disappear from lack of use, especially beginning at about 2.5 miles, after the trail leaves the creek bottom. On the way up, I found myself riding off into the woods several times. Even with the leaf cover, the tread is firm & fast.

I'm planning on the pre-ride. Still on the fence for the time trial.

Keep in mind that handlebar mounted lights can interfere with wireless cyclometers. My niterider 450 shuts down my cateye, but not the 150. So I put the 150 on my bar and the 450 on my helmet.

Good news is that FS661 was re-graded this week. Glad someone is working.

Rode the trail last Sunday 9/22. There was one "new" tree down in the fast section just before the first bridge (cw). It put me over on my head.

To those who didn't have the opportunity to ride today, I feel sorry for you. To those who sacrificed the day to do some much needed trail work, you are heros. To those who chose not to ride because FATS is closed, your loss. I decided to ride some laps of Horne Creek today to inspect the recent work, and glad I did. The weather was perfect, the trail was all good, except for a few trees down on sections 1 & 2. And special thanks to whoever was riding ahead of me and cleared the spiders.

I got two of the power line crossings on Deep Step cut - the crossings closest to Deep Step Road (1 each side). I think these were the ones that needed it most.
