This year SORBA-CSRA will be supporting several large MTB rides and events. The goal with doing so is to get local riders stoked on doing big miles, invite some non-locals down to check out some of the ‘other’ trails, and hopefully raise a little money for the club. The ride distances and difficulties increase as the year goes on.
The first ride will be the 49er Ride next month, followed by a 50 mile option at the Best Dam ride in April, and then the epic race hosted by Columbia County in June. In the fall, if there’s interest, we’ll do a REALLY big ride to cap off the series. Riders who complete all the rides will be recognized somehow….I don’t know how yet.
The 49er Ride is up first, on March 23rd! If the weather doesn’t cooperate we’ll move the ride back a week. This is a one-way 49 mile route that links together the Horn Creek, Wine Creek, Turkey Creek, and Modoc trails. The connector sections between the trails are what we like to call pavel = pavement + gravel. As much of the route as possible is kept off paved roads. What few paved roads are used are extremely low traffic and very quiet.
The 49er Ride is a GREAT first long ride, because about half the route is singletrack, and the other half is on the roads. The road sections go by quickly and easily compared to the singletrack.
There is no entry fee, but we would appreciate a $25 donation to the club. In exchange for a donation we’ll provide you with a cue sheet with turn-by-turn directions and a map. You can also bring some food/supplies, and we’ll take them to the halfway point (Key Bridge) so you don’t have to carry everything the entire ride. We’ll also provide water at the halfway point. All donations are tax deductible!!
If you’d like to do the ride please fill out this super quick survey – it’ll take you 30 seconds.
This is a one way ride, so we’ll have to arrange for shuttles to get people/bikes to/from the start and finish. Once I know how many people we’ll have I’ll come up with a plan for the shuttles. We will need help, so if you can carry a few people and bikes we’d appreciate it. Also, if you can carpool with a friend, please do! The fewer cars the better.
Again, as we get closer to the date, and I know about how many people to expect, I’ll announce the final details, such as start time, where to park, etc.
Questions?
If you’d like to do the ride please fill out this super quick survey/ – it’ll take you 30 seconds.
If you’d like to volunteer to help, but are not going to do the ride, shoot me an e-mail to let me know. Dgaddis 12 at gmail dot com
