Folks have already been chatting/trash talking about the 2014 Snake Creek Gap Time Trial Series, so I figured it was time to start a thread. What it is: 17 or 34 mile point to point time MTB time trial in the mtns just outside Dalton, GA, in the dead of winter. The Snake is charactorized by lots of climbing (~5000ft in the 34 mile), crappy weather, and miles and miles of rock gardens. The 17 mile race starts at the mid point of the 34 mile. When it is: First Saturday in Jan (4th), Feb (1st), and March (1st). There is a pre-ride in December. Why you should do it: Great motivation to keep logging the miles through the winter. Super fun and hard route, it's a challenge, but extrmely rewarding. It's often beautiful. If you complete all three 34 mile races you get a sweet belt buckle. One entry fee covers all three races. The post-ride chilli and peach cobbler are off the chain good. Full details and registration info: snake.nwgasorba.org/ Last year's thread: sorbacsra.proboards.com/thread/3326/snake-13 Some pics.

Dustin, I know you aren't planning on doing the pre-ride but I was wondering if anyone else is. We'd like to do it again this year even though we're not doing the series. It's a fun weekend...we go up on Friday and ride Raccoon Mtn and have dinner in Chattanooga afterwards then do the pre-ride Sat. I HIGHLY recommend doing the pre-ride if you have never ridden this course and are planning on doing the series. It's very enlightening. ;o)

I'm signed up already. Unless something comes up I'm planning on doing the pre-ride. I was going to go up and camp Friday evening and probably come back Saturday evening.

Less than 6 weeks till Round 1. WOOT WOOT.
Need to rebuild my fork soon. No plans to take the rigid SS this year.
Everyone training? I've gotten back to bike commuting more regularly, it's such a great way to fit saddle time into your day.

Koz you can't let a newbie like me that hasn't been on a mtb for even a year go out and get the buckle before you.

Round two went off this weekend and I think everyone had a really great time out there, I know I did. The CSRA had a great showing, everyone posted a new PR as far as I know. Mark broke the 4hr barrier on the 34, and Tom wasn't far behind even with a broken chain. Chad took some time off January, and Matt had a good ride for his first time back in a few years. Bryan had a great 1st Snake showing, finishing the 17 mile in under 2hrs! I had a wedding to go to that evening so I did the shorter 17 mile race too, and had the best ride I've ever had, finishing in just over 2hrs and fastest in my age group (all the fast guys were doing the 34 haha). Most fun I've ever had on the trail for sure. Can't wait to go back next month and do the longer course again. The swag this month was pretty awesome - a big growler. I pulled my phone out and took a quick pic while pushing up The Wall. The pic doesn't do it justice, you can't see how stupidly steep it is. EDIT: a few more pics. Good bike. The Snake eats tires. Glad this was just a shallow cut, and it didn't end my ride. Gonna have to patch this before the next one.
