Mini workparty today with certified sawyer Mark Hanna. Started at the end on FS 617A. Took about 4 1/2 hours to clear 4 1/2 miles back towards Key Rd. Too may trees to count (sorry B.L., no dog pics). Had to take the 3-mile bail-out. A lot of the trees along Stevens Creek had been cut previously, but flooding had moved them back onto the trail. The dips past the 5-mile are sloppy due to debris dams, but rideable. The "boardwalk" is a wreck. Hopefully some trail gnomes will clear the first 3 miles from Key Road soon and the trail will be all good again for some winter riding.

Anyone ridden Turkey lately? No, but might try to ride Wine + Turkey + Modoc Sunday 12/20.

The recent storms left a lot of trees, limbs and debris on all three trails.

Wine Creek Trail says "mow me please!" Time to get those DR's rolling.

I don't know if there is a policy or procedure for this: in several locations there are solitary chunks of concrete, that I assume were originally intended for stabilization, but have now become hazards and contribute to trail widening. These are on Deep Step: I also found these boards, which I didn't know existed, buried in the muck: Not really sure what this is accomplishing: And these two scenarios are common throughout the system: The reinforcement in the last pic isn't bad, but for some reason isn't ridden. Anyway, I think some of these should be considered for removal/re-work.

Or a great day to go clean drains, when you can see where the problems are.

Although bikers and walkers alike have been disregarding signs and locked gates for weeks, the trail should be officially opened by Friday afternoon.

Much thanks to whoever did the recent work on Wine Creek (bridge wire & tree removal). The trail is all good.

Trail conditions are excellent. Give FATS a break and go ride this trail.

I wonder if I'd be safe at Modoc Trail on this:

I apparently dropped my wallet in the FATS parking lot on Thursday evening. If you picked it up please PM me.

That's the Stevens Creek Heritage Preserve. Foot trails only - no biking.

Trimming/lopping out to 2 miles from Key Rd. is done. 2 trees in the first mile need chainsaw. It could still use a good mowing the first 2 miles, but its not as urgent now. I "mowed" the best I could with the trimmer. I met 4 bikers riding down from 283 who said the upper section was good except for a couple trees they had to step over.
