The breaks are cut across the trail in a couple spots. Not too bad though.

The burn shouldn't affect the trail.

2x9 is more than enough for anywhere. If the bike fits you and feels good, then the number of gears should not deter you. You can change from 2x, 1x, or single speed pretty easily.

Kudos to whoever blew the leaves off parts of Brown Wave and cleaned up some drains. Rides great!

Cleaned a bunch of drains and puddles today on lower skinny. I never realized how many there are till I started stopping at each one. Took an axe for the trees but was glad to see them already gone. Thanks Mr. Murphy.

Wasn't really criticizing. Just letting somebody know like has always been done on this forum. The 3 trees on skinny are too big for a hand saw so a Sawyer needs to know about em. Jp I don't do as much as I'd like, (i do actually think about doing stuff) but I do more than the numbers belie. Cleaned a bunch of mud puddle drains on GW yesterday. 1.5 miles each direction starting at the bench. I don't turn in forms or log hours or let anybody know when I cut a tree out with my chainsaw. I just do it. Deano, I found a pile of small gravel yesterday up by the road but it's a good ways away from where it's needed.

Couple trees down on lower skinny. One is a go under, the other 2 are rideable but probably not to the average FATer. They're in the area with all the dead/downed trees. The worst wash in all the 30+ miles of trail is also in that area. Failed trail maintenance is funneling all the water straight down trail, making or nearly unrideable.

Any of the bike shops in the area are plenty capable. But Todd at Chain Reaction in Evans has always been super helpful to me when I had maintenance issues.

I'm 220 and run 23ish in the front and a few psi more in the rear 2.35 ikon. I've got a continental X King 2.4 up front that I really like. The 2.2 Ikon is good when FATS dries up. I have bad luck with tires sealing so when I have a combo that's holding air and performing well I stick with it. The sealant gets expensive when I was trying to match my tires to the conditions.

The Ikon 2.35 is my goto rear tire also. But this time of year I switch to a Specialized Ground control rear. Rode this weekend at FATS and noticed some slippage so I'll probably switch em out this week.

Access to an utilty type atv with a dump bed would make short work of hauling gravel. With all the rain these days and as much traffic as FATS gets, the best trail maintenance techniques would be hard pressed to hold up. Are tower and Big Rock closed too?

Would putting some gravel down in the spots that are chronically wet be an option or even help?

As of Wednesday Big Rock and Tower are good. I think only one mud spot on the two of them. Deep Step has several really muddy spots Got a splash of rain last night so conditions don't look to be improving.

The only trail I have a preference of direction on is Deep Step. Prefer CCW on that one.

I ran out of wire on the bridge. I plan on going back to cover the rest and try to shore up the boards on the ends. Not sure who cleared the trees.

Turkey is in great shape. Looks like some folks have been riding and taking care of it. 2 non riders near mile 6 but they're easy to get around. Somebody has cut halfway thru one.

I survived Farlow. This time. Really not looking forward to riding (mostly walking) it again during the race.

Cool Mark. Yeah if I end up solo on the scouting trip I'll probably skip Farlow. From what I hear most people walk down it. I'm just looking to finish the race so I feel sure I'll walk it too. You think the rest of the trails on the course besides Farlow warrant a preride? Or are they pretty straight forward and easy to deal with on the fly? I'd much rather spend the day at Dupont than climbing fire roads up in Brevard alone.

Anybody else riding Swank this year? I hope to pre ride the course next Thursday or Friday. Get a feel for what I'm in for. Gonna be soloing it unless somebody else wants to ride up with me. Have plenty of room in the truck. It'll be a day trip. Let me know.
