Finally moving up to the 29er world. Loved my Haro Flightline, but after breaking my rear derailleur hanger again, I've decided not to put any money into it. I want to make the move to a big wheel bike. Looking around for a used bike and found a Trek, but it is set up as a 2X9. I haven't inquired as to the ring set up yet, and not sure what would be the best for our area. Any advice? Or, anyone have medium size 29ers they are thinking of selling? Thanks!

You can't ride a 2x9 around here......(sarcasm)
Ride it and see if you like it. If not change it.....cassettes are cheap and easy to change.

2x9 is more than enough for anywhere. If the bike fits you and feels good, then the number of gears should not deter you. You can change from 2x, 1x, or single speed pretty easily.

I have been running 2X9 (32, 22) on my 29er for years. I can't ever remember thinking I needed more gears. I mainly stay in the 32 when riding local, but its nice having the 22 for trips to the mountains.
