Something is wrong with that fox. Distemper, rabbies....who knows. But that is unusual unless it has one of these or something else.
Should the city animal control be alerted? It would be awful for someone to get rabbies fro it.

It was HOT! I was cooked by noon. We were wondering about you guys in this heat. Sounds like a strong effort - and if you rode from West Dam to M'toe - you rode it all one way, right?

I rode HKSP Lake Loop and Turkey Ridge this morning. Very nice. Best in years. Ended up with about 19.5 miles with a trip around the lollipop loop at Plum Branch. It was hot and I was cooked. Done at noon.
It's only June. I'm scared of July and August.

I ran DR for 4 hours at HKSP today with none other than....Dale.
Tough trail with all the dips etc... for the machine. But damn, Dale was strong all day. Hope I am kicking it that hard when I am 60.

What a nice trail. Best views of all the trails we have.
That was the toughest loop I've ever done at HKSP. 4 hours to get around the Lake Loop. I flipped the DR twice but it seemed no worse for wear.
Good turnout. And the Lake Loop is in the best shape it has been in 10 years, probably since it was built.
Seven miles of hand built single along the lake. It has good flow and great views of the lake. Several places along the ride where swimming is 15 feet away. This trail is worth the drive from Augusta and nice diversion from the local rides.
Thanks for putting the day together. It was good to do this type of work again.
Wine/Turkey next? I am game. Might be 3 weeks before I can go though.

Road bike. Fort Gordon.
MTB. Tower (FATS) area. Best fireroads for climbing are Duck Pond Rd and Buzzards Chute Rd. These are off of Woodlawn in the area of the Tower Loop. Also, Philpot Road isn't bad (the North FATS parking lot is on Philpot Rd). It gets steeper if you don't get onto Big Rock Loop and just stay on Philpot Rd. The other two I mention here are to your left and to your right when you are at the Philpot Rd/Woodlawn intersection.
Also, the road that goes down to the Brown Wave is good, but not as steep.
Thurmond and Chota (a mile east of FATS main lot) are also good. I live on Chota and it has a nice climb out from Stevens Creek.
Locally that is best I know of. If you go about 2.5 - 3 hours north, into WNC, there is a larger selection to choose from. Curtis Creek Rd being one that comes to mind.

She must be gone. I bet animal control finally got her which is a good thing. 803-637-5337 is Sheriff's office (they handle animal control) number in case anyone wants to call to find out.

Probably best to trailer the tools in. Mow it, then fix the bridge. Could do the same day with a staggered crew. Wonder how much work needs to happen north of the big dip.
We need Wooglin to suss it out and give us a report.

Bill, what is the easiest access to the second bridge? BOB in the tools or is it an easy hike? How far from the southern entrance is it? What do we need...hammers and crowbars?

Did not see her last night. Rode from the house, but did see the dog in the lot.
She still there?

Those WNC trails are the real deal. Tsali is like the trails around here, with views. A little more climbing than here. But quite tame by mountain standards.
East of there is a place called Pisgah NF. And it is a totally different set of trails than Tsali and here. Pisgah is serious technical riding with big climbs and steep descents. If FATS is a 10 on your difficulty scale, Pisgah is a 20, perhaps 30.
I'd say you should find some trails called Jack Rabbit trails. They are in NC, but just above the GA border. Jack Rabbit and Tsali - go check them out. Pisgah - you may want to wait a bit before tackling those.
Another area called DuPont SF, but it is a good ways from Cherokee.

[or Bartram -> Keg -> Mistletoe -> back to Keg. . West Dam - WW - Keg - M'toe - Keg is what I thought made sense. You ride it all, once. Except the short connector b/n K and M you ride both ways. That is the route I plan to do when the trees are gone.

As I see it the trail requiring the most effort is Wine, with two bridges down and overgrowth of vegetation. Most of you have more experience and insight on the logistics of these things so your input is welcome. IMO, both bridges will require disassembly, components dragged back into place, and rebuilt. The first one closest to Key road should be first since it will need to be functional to get DR’s in to cut the %$&$ bull nettle that turned me around when I was trying to survey the second bridge. I think we can do this in two work parties; the first with 6-8 people to disassemble the bridge and muscle the pole stringers back into place, and the boards screwed back down. After the strigers are in place the remaining workers could go ahead to the second bridge and start disassembly. If time permits the first group could catch up and help get things back in place. A second trip could be to DR and finish any leftovers from reconstruction of the second bridge. The second day could I'd be for not fixing the first bridge. Why? We have fixed it 2-3 times already. It sat unused from 1990 to about 2002 or so. We rode thru the deep drain and it was a good line going both ways. It was rideable. Then we fixed the bridge. And it got flooded again. Then we fixed it again, and here we are. This bridge location is not sustainable and if fixed it will wash away again in the next 12 months. I've fixed 4 mile bridge on Modoc several times as well, but it doesn't wash away as easily as this bridge does. My $.02 If we can get the DR mowers thru the drain (and we should be able to as we used to back in the day), lets go fix the second bridge and mow the trail that needs mowing. I want this trail back. I want to be able to ride the Dark Star Loop and Connector Rides with Wine Creek in the route And this is the best trail to hook up to Plum Branch Trail for a big route going that direction.

You guys be careful. In perfect conditions, this is a tough route. You are not going to have perfect conditions. Downed trees, heat and humidity are all going to be in cohoots against you.
The trees are a bother. But the heat and humidity can be a serious issue. Keep that in mind. And get those cars to Keg and Pburg with the supplies. You are going to need them.
Good luck.
