After we saw you Dustin, I ran into my girl, Barbara, on her bike and MD was running. It was a beautiful day out there and so is today. I swear, there is a little piece of my heart connected to that towpath. Even a bad day at work doesn't take away from my bike ride home. Nevin was happy to ride fast with the guys back to the car. He said Ben got a little "whippersnapperish", if that's a word. ha ha ha

Awesome guys! I've heard some talk of others who are interested so hopefully we can get a fun group together. I'm gonna start pestering people.

Dustin, I know you aren't planning on doing the pre-ride but I was wondering if anyone else is. We'd like to do it again this year even though we're not doing the series. It's a fun weekend...we go up on Friday and ride Raccoon Mtn and have dinner in Chattanooga afterwards then do the pre-ride Sat. I HIGHLY recommend doing the pre-ride if you have never ridden this course and are planning on doing the series. It's very enlightening. ;o)

What a great day on the bike, my favorite so far this year I think. Lotsa folks out enjoy the Bartram, Keg, and Mistletoe trails on Saturday. We had about 10 folks start at West Dam at 8am, a few others joined us at Keg, we also ran across the other group riding right there at Keg, looked like a bunch of folks there too. Five of us did the entire 62 mile Thurmond Epic (we didn't ride Lake Springs), I had my quickest time on it yet with a ride time of 6hrs and 6mins. As a rule we stayed together really well even though we weren't really trying, about the only time I was by myself was riding the road back to Keg after finishing Mistletoe. At the start of the ride the guys up front set a pretty dang fast pace, and like an idiot I pushed and hung with them. Later they bailed and took a shorter route back to the car...it was a trap! haha Anyhow, I knew I'd pay for pushing that harder pace eventually. When we hit Mistletoe it started, getting out of the saddle for the steep stuff my quads started cramping. I walked a few short really steep sections to keep full-lock-up at bay. At the Mistletoe office I drank about half a coke and ate a snickers bar, and did a tiny bit of stretching. When we got back on the bikes the cramps were gone! THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE! Every other time I've started cramping, once they start, that's it, they're here to stay and the ride switches to survival mode. But not Saturday. No idea why, but it was grand. Thanks for everyone that came out. Big thanks to Troy for the water drop (sorry I so over estimated!!) and to Stan for the post-ride burritos. www.strava.com/activities/90045945This was the only non-blurry pic I took, we were too busy riding to stop for pics. A great day indeed! It was awesome getting to see a lot of the Snake crew out there, too. I couldn't have done the whole thing (minus ~ 2 mi. being lost at MT) if it wasn't for Dustin's encouragement. (I also had the benefit of not being a dude because I didn't feel obliged to keep up when everyone went out fast which resulted in a strong finish for me.) Thanks to Troy for the water and Stan for the post-ride chow!

Just signed us up for the Southern Cross in February. We are doing it in lieu of Snake this year but it is on a different weekend if you want to do both! You don't have to be a cross rider to do this race and I know there are many folks who ride HT mtn bikes instead. Looking forward to some more suffering in the mountains! woot woot!

I'll be there Koz! Just don't force me to do some of the technical stuff! You will have time to practice each feature several times, rest, have a snack, and do some minor maintenance before I catch up to you. ha ha ha...you are silly

Looks like there will be at least four of us, maybe six. Anyone slow enough to keep me company? I'll be there Koz! Just don't force me to do some of the technical stuff!

Wow! Great pics! Thanks for taking the time to post Wooglin. Looks like I'll have to add this AND the Hellhole Gravel Grinder to my race list next year. I smiled the entire 70 miles of the Pisgah Monster Cross...this sort of racing is the shizzle.

Couldn't ride the towpath today due to repairs but we have a darn nice (safe) alternative just a little further down the road. The North Augusta Greeneway is a gem and perfect for bike commuting to work if you can pull it off. We plan on taking a longer route back to the car tonight to get some exploring in. Woot woot! (apologies to those on FB who already saw this post)

Question, which category should an all women 4 person team go in? Co-ed says a "minimum of 2 females", which we have and depending on what definition you want to apply to "co-ed", we all went to co-ed colleges, so...we're ready to sign up, just need to know the appropriate class.

Well said, Dustin. People that behave like this make us all look bad because that is what the drivers remember. I too ride the sidewalk on the 13th Street bridge. Just seems like suicide to do otherwise.

I'm looking forward to getting out and helping on Sunday! The trails have been near perfect and with a little more effort they will be perfect through the fall and winter. If we get the rest of the vegetation cut back, hopefully nobody will get stung by hornets again (like Chaos did on Skinny last weekend) and it will reduce the chances of picking up ticks.

I had a great time at the ORAMM cheering on our local guys. Everyone met their goals except for Ted and Dan who had mechanicals (bummer!!). We tried to make up for the disappointment with beers afterwards. I'd like to think it helped. Here are a few pics of our local hot shots. Proud of all these tough guys representing the SORBACSRA! Ben, David, Dan, Nevin and Ted Russell, John and Ron Tried to find Bill Leslie to get a pic of him before the race but had no luck. I was happy to see he finished as well. Here are the results. After cheering on the guys at the first sag stop, Tammy and Tyler Funk took me on a tour of Kitsuma. It was awesome!

Oh, by the way, Mark, Nevin bets you didn't get the liberal discount on that Prius. LOL

I bet the prius was the Lamberts and can guarantee you they would be hitting the gravel, not the trails.. Yep, it was us! We had a nice ride with Tom, totally unplanned. Thanks for having faith in us guys....even though we're liberals. (that's for you, Mark) ;o)

Thanks Stan. I think the rain and seeing our beautiful trails in such a mess has everyone out of sorts. The only turd I see here is that person who left the tracks that Angela photographed. On a positive note, thanks Angela and Daniel for all the time you have taken to keep us informed on the state of FATS and other trails.

Yep, this is a good ride and nice alternative when you can't get on the trails. Gorgeous scenery and some decent little climbs.
