You're welcome, Tom. Hey, are you saying TC, Wine and Modoc are in bad shape? We had a work party at TC and Wine just a few weeks ago (I know you did some work before hand) and were hoping they would still be in decent shape. We hiked 1 1/2 miles into Modoc Father's Day weekend and it looked super. Have things changed?

Hiked Big Rock with Morry this morning and cut back a bunch of face slappers and sticker bushes. Took out a few trees with the hand saw as well. Trail in good shape. Saw five bikers and the tread seemed dry enough to handle them. We got stung by yellow jackets on the east side just down from the nice rock feature that you can ride over or around. It looked like a critter had dug up their nest. Sorry about the dog butt:

I'm sharing a couple stories about Sherri that will always be remembered...and I smile when I think of them. One day Nevin and I were out riding Keg Creek, which is one of the more challenging single track trails in the CSRA (at least for me it is) and we came upon Sherri who was out riding by herself and had just finished taking care of a mechanical. We asked her if she needed any help and she said “no” and thanked us. We proceeded to pass her as she was taking off and I noticed that she was on a single-speed. I hollered out to her “hey, I didn’t know you rode a single-speed” and she replies “I don’t, I just broke my derailleur and had to convert it”. Well, not only was I impressed by her independence in getting out and riding a difficult trail on her own but knowing she had enough wherewithal to fix a mechanical that a lot of dudes can’t fix, she certainly raised the bar in the “tough chic” category, in my opinion. The second story comes from the last time I spoke with Sherri. I ran into her in Costco and she was her usual happy self. I asked her why her shins were all scraped up and bruised and she said she had just returned from a weekend cycling skills clinic and while practicing riding a big log she crashed. She was giddy as she told the story because she had such a good time. All I could think is “ouch” but again, she impressed me with her attitude. Sherri’s love of mountain biking was infectious and her youthful spirit made her a joy to hang out with. I know there is so much shock and sadness over her loss but we can all carry a little piece of her in our hearts when we remember the good times we enjoyed with her around. Here is a link that Barbara Drawdy posted with a story and some nice pics of Sherri after a fun ladies’ ride. I was blessed to know her. sorbacsra.proboards.com/thread/3087/pics-cyclofemme-ride

Sherri will be greatly missed. She was a wonderful person and had a tough spirit. She loved mountain biking and hanging out with us ladies for rides. My prayers are with the family.

To help prepare for the upcoming mowathon, last Saturday we took care of a couple of trees on Wine that Daniel and Angela were unable to finish due to saw problems. Should be clear to the ravine. Very wet in places. The first bridge you come to at the Turkey Creek end looks like it sustained some damage from high water. Not sure if it's safe anymore. Trail should be good to go for the mowathon! Please volunteer if you can. This is the tree we removed Daniel's bar/chain from: Tree #2: Not sure what this is but it's cool: Debris by the bridge that is close to the ravine: Another shot of the debris:

We cut on Modoc today to get some exercise, run Morry, make the best of nasty weather, but most of all to volunteer for a great organization. Took out 6 non-riders and cleared some drains. Here are some pics: Before: After: Before (sorry no after...pretty solid ride-around but cut it anyway): Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: And Morry helped clear a drain:

We did some work on Wine today. We cut 6 non-riders and took out some brushy stuff that was closing in on the trail. Trail is WET but should be good to go after it dries (and if no trees fall in the meantime). Here are a few pics... Before (Morry going after a stick Nevin threw): After: Before: After: Before: After (note the "rider" down the trail that we kept, of course): Before (forgot to get an after shot but the dog is cute anyway): Before: After:

Wheel Movement is inviting all cyclists of the CSRA to join us on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. to participate in the filming of the final segment of Wheel Movement’s public service announcement (PSA). We will gather in front of Lake Olmstead Stadium, 78 Milledge Road, Augusta, Georgia 30904, where our filmmaker, Mark Albertin, will shoot the CSRA’s most enthusiastic cyclists for inclusion in the PSA. It will only take a few minutes of time for Mr. Albertin to capture the final portion of the PSA. Following the filming, participants are free to depart on a road bike, mountain bike or casual ride in the area. We ask that you dress in your best cycling attire, bring your bikes and join us on March 8. We welcome all cyclists, including adults, children, road cyclists, mountain bikers, casual riders, recumbent riders, hand cyclists or any other member of our cycling community. We would like as many cyclists as possible to be a part of Wheel Movement’s PSA which we plan to roll out shortly in an effort to encourage safe cycling in our community. Thank you in advance for your help and participation!

Nevin and I took out 5 non-riders between Petersburg and Wildwood. A few had established ride arounds which we blocked as well. Short on time or we would have taken pics and cleared trees at the other end. Tread is in pretty good shape except for the usual problem areas.

Thanks Brandon. Nevin cleared the trees, most of them with a handsaw. We've been enjoying Wine and Turkey a lot these days.

We are getting close to primo Turkey Creek riding season so we thought we'd park a car at each end, hike and cut with Morry today. We took out 8 trees, including the one on the bridge. Sadly, the bridge will be needing some structural work soon, we suspect. Didn't take pics of all the trees but here are most of them....it might be a little boring....ha ha ha. Thanks to the crew that did the mowing and lopping a few weeks ago. The trail is PERFECT now. It was great seeing a large group riding it last weekend and we hope more folks get out and ride it! Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After (Morry's getting pretty tired at this point, thankfully): Took a break close to the confluence and now that Morry has the bandage off his tail and the cone of shame gone, he was able to take his first swim. He loved it! He's the best trail dog. Happy boy...

Nevin and Mark Hanna took out about 7 trees today on Turkey and I only snagged this pic of the first one because I was trail running/walking with Morry and only got about 2.5 miles in. The guys rode the whole trail and said it's in great shape now except for needing the DR work which should happen in August. LOVE this trail. P.S. ~ if Mark thinks he's going to take my place swamping, he's got another thing coming. ;o) Quick edit...Mark took this pic...last tree cut today: My new trail running partner, Morry (short for Morpheus Sandman Lambert): Tired boy:

Thank you we will meet at near Key Bridge (I'll post directions later) at 8AM on Saturday Sunday. Be sure and watch the forum. We currently only have 4 people signed up to work. That is not enough to drag all the equipment out for a work party so it could get cancelled! Angela, I think you meant to write "Sunday". Nevin and I are in if it's Sunday but you'll just be stuck with me if it's Saturday. Thanks for organizing this!!

A small crew (Becky & Nevin Lambert and Ted Stoddard) out on both Turkey Creek and Wine Creek were able to do debris and tree cleanup with a handsaw (no chainsaw work required)and reported that trail did not sustain extensive damage. The trail is still extremely wet though. Just to clarify, we did take out about 20 trees with a chainsaw on Wine and Turkey but most of them were skinny pines that were off the ground enough to make you dismount. I didn't think to get pics of everything because we wanted to cover as much ground as possible. Despite this, we were very surprised it wasn't worse. We ended up spending most of our time on Wine tunneling through the dense sections. Thanks for the pics of FATS. We intend to do a lot more sawing over the next few weeks.
