Sunday, July 20th is the only day we can get a work party scheduled at Wine Creek/Turkey Creek in the month of July. August will be pretty well filled up by preparation for the Wildwood Games. We will need the DR mowers, the hedgers, chainsaws and some people lopping out there to get the trail cleaned up. If we do not have enough volunteers to run the equipment or do supplementary lopping we will just do what we are able to get done with available resources. Plan will be to start at 8am and be finished by noontime. If you are able to help please respond to this post with contact information or send us an email at SORBAcsraThe Explore the Trail Ride for September will be at Wine/Turkey so would be great to get this trail cleaned up before then. Thank you! More information to come. Angela

Thank you we will meet at near Key Bridge (I'll post directions later) at 8AM on Saturday Sunday. Be sure and watch the forum. We currently only have 4 people signed up to work. That is not enough to drag all the equipment out for a work party so it could get cancelled!

Nevin and I are in if it's Sunday but you'll just be stuck with me if it's Saturday. Thanks for organizing this!!

Thanks Becky, you are correct it is on Sunday and to Koz for correcting my post. JP3 I have you down as well. We completed the recon on Turkey Creek this weekend (did not recon Wine Creek because with so few people signed up Wine Creek is off the list (for now) for July 20th). There are parts of the first roughly 4 miles that are really nice and don't need a lot of work except in sporadic places. And then there is the rest of the trail (if you can find it)! And then there are the trees (and yes on these more outlying trails we leave more riders down but there are quite a few trees down that are not riders that need to be removed). Now you might say, I never ride Turkey Creek why should I volunteer out there?? We rarely have/take time to ride this trail either but we know we are so privileged to have 150 miles in our inventory of trails. 150 miles within about an hour of CSRA, unheard of! But if we don't keep these trails maintained they will fall into non-use and I will tell you the USFS and other land managers are reviewing assets to potentially close since there is maintenance on their part however minimal attached to these trails. We have 8 people signed up for the work party next Sunday which is now just Turkey Creek. We really need 12 people (but we need to know if you are coming to ensure we have tools and equipment for everyone to use)to do a good job. Hopefully we can reschedule Wine Creek for another time since we don't have enough people to handle Wine too. If by chance we get enough to include Wine, we'll do recon one night this week to assess what needs to be done. Thanks!

I will be posting information about the work party tonight, be sure and check here before leaving for the work party if you have not already sent me your email address, the weather is looking somewhat iffy at this point and it will be cancelled if rain looks imminent.

After discussion with a couple of the key people, the decision has been made to cancel tomorrow's work party.
Given that this work party requires utilization of our equipment (DR mowers, hedgers, etc) we don't feel the conditions will be conducive to safe handling of the equipment. Surfaces, particularly dips, roots, etc will not have time to adequately dry even if we do not get additional rain.
Thanks so much to all the volunteers who signed up! We will try to set this work party up one weekend in August. Hopefully we will get enough volunteers to work on both Turkey Creek and Wine Creek.
