There is a parking area on the other side of the "old bridge" at Prices' Bottom. Dirt road on the other side of key bridge brings you there.

What is "the red hill"? I have only ridden Lick forks 3 times. The only thing that sticks out on section 5 would be a small hill that has a white fence (more like railing) at the top.

Will there be an area of vendors at the summit that folks can wander around, check out new gear, demo some bikes and maybe get a free-be or two?

I noticed the Saturday of the summit there will be a Bartram/Keg (I prefer to call it the Dam Keg Creek Dam Ride) will the extention be open before the summit?
ps this by the way may be the ride to celebrate my 40th in September. 40 miles for the 40th

After riding yesterday my wife and I also went back to FATS to see if we could catch her. She seems fine with around other dogs (brought mine back with me) but will only come within 5 feet of humans.
ps for being such a nice day the lot only had about 10 cars there in the afternoon and less in the morning. Trails (well lower Skinny) were in great shape. had a mechanical issur and decided to ride out early with a jerry rig fix.

I always thought of it as the second (but third as seenvic described its surroundings) about 100ft past the "Bridge to No Where" just read or heard somewhere that if you go over the bridge and keep riding it brings you out to a forest service road. I'll have to check it out some time. Alaways nice to make loops.

Went hiking up my favorite place peak, Mount Monadnock in Jaffery, NH. Used to live 15 minutes to the southern trail heads. first view from Cascade Link. spruce trees line the trail view north, could see the summits of the White Mountains (NH) 100miles away but they didn't come out in the picture spruce, granite, snow, gotta love it. pizza and beer for lunch 3 feet of snow with flowing water made things interesting. me with the summit behind. Pumpelly Ridge which we hiked up southern NH, MA and CT (as a crow flies, my old house was 8 miles in that direction) shadow holding the summit marker on the way down

Noticed a lot of smoke coming from the area near FATS or at least that direction when I was on Furrys Ferry. Did they burn near the area?

Yes Modoc, my mistake for not mentioning it. Here are a few more pics. first feeder creek crossing mostly charred earth "jaws" just after the bridge to no where. hugging the hillside with Stephens Creek flowing 50ft below

I was thinking today that yes many moan that FATS was closed for a good chunk of the winter but what were the positives of it? 1. A lot of work was done at FATS 2. I noticed when i have rode Turkey, Keg and Modoc that these trails are in great shape easy to follow and people are riding them.
I am sure other trails have seen more use this past winter, more use=easier trails to follow. I rember the first few times I rode Keg it was hard to follow in parts and seeing bike tracks was not happening.

the stump is/was a good 4 feet high just past 4-mile bridge. one week after the prescribed burn. Just before "jaws" a "big hulk of a tree" which you can ride under. it is right in the switch back. Really cool. another view never knew my bike was smoking

There was a sign there previously marking the old hiking trail. I am not sure if they replaced the old sign with a new one. My understanding that secton Wildwood to keg went to disrepair when the disc-golf course was put in.

Rode it today. many areas where it is still smoldering from the burn last week including one flaming stump just after 4 mile bridge (or will it always be known as the bridge of death) A little bridge just befor the 4-mile bridge is broken but a ride around has formed.
1 non-rider and one questionable tree down near the 5 mile mark. other than that all the logs down were ridable and the trail in great shape.

Petersburg Campround is about 10 minutes from FATS and is locatated on the shores (GA side) of Lake Thurman (aka Clarks Hill) sites are nice, swimming areas, boating etc. Many riders use this campgroung because its location plus the added bonus of Bartram Trail which currently is a 7 mile (one way) trail w/ one 3 mile loop off of it. This trail is a beginer trail which is great for kids and also a lot of fun for more experienced riders. The trail is being extended another 9 miles(?) currently. As for hotels Augusta, GA would be the nearest. Since I live in the area I only drive by them. However for the week of April 7th they are mostly booked up if not all full by now do to the Masters. (golf) Also that week the tend to jack the prices. I do not know your 5 yrs old but I would be hesitant bringing him to FATS. My 8yr old daughter likes Bartram a lot but i have not taken her to FATS as of yet. I know of one family that used to use a 3rd whell on their bikes for there kids at FATS. The best place to find out if FATS is open is www.sorbacsra.com It has been closed for a good chunk of the winter do to the heavey amount of rain the area has recieved. As soon as the leaves come out (which is starting now) the rule of thumb is to stay off the trails 24/48 hours after a rain.

No, I believe this is the creek crossing that it was mentioned may be re-worked. Noticed some flagging tape for a 20' section. Going cw it is about 2/3rds the way before you get to the "road" creek crossing. I am almost 100% sure it was after the excess trail.

Keg was in the best shape I have ever seen. big thanks to Mark and Dale for their hard work. First creek crossing (cw) has a tree down. Saw to equestrians out on "keg creek point" coming down the road. Spoke to them for a bit. Said they only ride the roads, did not see any horse prints or motorized wheel tracks on the trail itself. Last time there was ice out there, today high 70's.
Have to say "boulder creek" has to be the coolest, or at least in the top 5, section of trail in the CSRA. Would make some pretty mt bike action shots.

Thanks for the info. For the last few weeks (or has it been months) I have avoided it since I park at the rapids. With the time change I am hoping to get at least one ride in per week after work plus one for the weekend. Now if would just stop raining every 4 days!

I know some of the work was postponed, however is it finished yet? Is the tow path open between I-20 and the singletrack during the weekdays yet? thanks.
