4-person coed; in the past, we have not had enough participation to have women-only teams, maybe that will change? But you guys could probably put a hurt on the 4 person (man) team class.

This next Thursday, 8/29, weather permitting, we'll try Horn Creek (Lick Fork), back parking lot, 6pm. Remember to pay the $3 fee. We'll probably run one Bakers Dozen lap and one regular lap.

I did not see the first prox 5 miles, but the area around the 5 mile rest area / whoops is very slippery. The first whoop had a big tree at the top fall over so you have to enter the whoop at an angle (not good). Be very careful the first time you ride this. There is also one spot where so much junk was washed up onto the trail that we mowed a ride-around. Also be careful at the "v" just after the left turn at the 5 mile access point. The trail should be good after a hot, dry 3 days; but be careful due to changes brought about by the rains/flood.

You may not be able to ride many trails with all the rain, but at least you can look good at the bike shop with your new Sorba CSRA t-shirt!! We have 17 t-shirts and 4 polos ordered so far; you've got about a week left to make up your mind. Don't miss the first edition shirt! Jon Taylor

We now have t-shirts and Polos with the Sorba CSRA logos! You can stop wearing your cycle jersey to the store when you want to fly your club colors....
The t-shirts are based on the cycling jersey- big club logo on the front and the chainring plus detail on the back. The Polo has an embroidered club logo on the upper left chest, where the pocket would go. There are mens and ladies styles available.
Go to the home page and click on the "Order your SORBAcsra Tshirts and Polos Now" line.
The t-shirts are $15 and the polos are $30. UPS shipment is an additional $5.
For the color- you need to enter the exact color. For example, the t-shirt has 63 colors to choose from, so Grey can be Sports Grey or Ice Grey. If you need to see the shirt in full color rather than just the little block, go to jimhannas.com, look at the products / apparel catalog, and type in the style number.
We want to wrap up the first order by the end of August. Shirts should be ready by end of September latest.

no parking fee, trail marked every 0.5 mile, pit toilets at the parking area but no water pump; all on Corp land. You will want to stop and look at the lake several times. I think you are making a wise choice.

I am a big fan of "alternate lines". I have made some cut-outs in the past ie log at the 1 mile point at Modoc and some at Keg. I also have made several "half-in, half-out" logs at Keg. The downside to the notch-cut is that it takes a lot of time, which is usually in short supply, or it's too hot, or something similar. Also, I ate it on the cut on the 1-mile tree once and never did going over the top. The half-in dilema for me is- if I have a chance to chicken-out, will I ever try it? When I know I do not have a choice, I psych myself up more. How many people would ride the rock if there was an easy bypass? This is a never-ending debate. That's why I became champion of Modoc- "sawyers rules".

ditto what Dustin said. Go west towards Wildwood from the Petersburg parking area for a slighty more difficult trail. FATS is not a beginner trail by any means. It is very popular and thus lots of beginners ride it, but I would think it would discourage a new rider because of the climbing and short but steep sections.

Thanks for the update- I presume the downed trees are spread throughout the length of the trail? I am the "trail champion" for Modoc and was planning to cut trees this last weekend but between rain and lack of help it didn't get done. Since this trail is on Forest Service land, you need to be "chainsaw certified" by the FS. Also keep in mind that I have left a number of trees on purpose so you can practice your log-hopping skills. Send me an email- jtaylor@sorba.org and we'll plan a work party.

I need one helper while I cut trees on Modoc Saturday afternoon, some time after 3pm. I know of 3 trees that need cutting between 1 and 2 mile markers, but that was before the heavy rains this last week.
I would like to cut trees on the Mistletoe loop Sunday morning, starting at the back gate. If more than 1 person comes, they can carry hand clippers and trim the worst areas.
With such short notice, call me at 706-726-1501 if you can help. thanks Jon Taylor

JP and I cut the big tree at 2.5 today; never saw so much poison ivy in my life. Somebody moved the tree at 3.5 (thanks). Everything left Banks rode on Thursday.

I really wanted to go to cheer for Meredith Miller. I figured you would be there to represent the Augusta fans.

For a short drive, go to Heritage Park, on 441 south of Athens (exit 114 I-20), maybe 10 miles north of I-20. Very fun trail, Boyd Pond on steroids. More climbing than you'd think for a trail in this area. Some areas will be slippery if wet, may wait until Sunday.

Rode burg to West Dam this afternoon. Non riders at 0.2 and 2.8 miles (from WD) for the main trail. Lake Springs loop has 4 non riders, spread about evenly. Second what MD says about the sawyers. Forgot to add-- pulled a tick off at the end of the ride

JP3 and I rode Keg today with a young couple that was there for the first time (they said they rode FATS and were staying off due to the wet weather- yea!). Only 2 non-riders (about 3.5 and 4.4 miles cw from the parkng lot) and several new riders.

Rode BR and T this afternoon; one non-rider about 100 yds below the fire tower. Otherwise, trails are in very good shape.

Rode yesterday expecting the worst, but in pretty good shape considering the wind. Non riders down near 7.5, 10, 11, and 12 mile markers. We moved several trees and a bunch of branches off the trail and turned one tree into a rider. The trail had 0 wet spots, which was a mild surprise.

I've used just one light on my helmet for 12 years. Always keep a small flashlight in my backpack in case of emergencies. Need a brighter light as you get older......

Rode HKSP yesterday- both loops in great condition. Lots of fun with the leaves down. I cut one tree off each loop. I presume MD/BD got the rest of the trees off Turkey Ridge sometime after the pictures above?
