Thursday night group- took us 1.5 hours to get to the 2.5 mile mark, turned around there. We took the Forest Service road out from the "A" point, at least it is clear. Cleared a number of trees with hand saws. About 8 non riders, most are walk overs except one in the middle of the second creek (about 0.9 mile mark). Water marks were higher in the woods than I have ever seen. Can't imagine what Wine looks like....

Trail was in great shape last night. We turned around at the top of the hill past Keg creek (big drop-in). Someone has cut trees, a few favorite riders gone, and started to cut Banks' tagged tree but stopped... There is still a non-rider near the 21.5 mile mark and another Banks-type tree near 20.5, I think. Creeks are very dry. At Keg creek, the down lane has gotten steeper the last foot and the bank at the up lane is washed out so is much tougher.

Thursday night group cleaned the trail to the 4 mile bridge. One non-rider about 0.6 miles in. Grass is a little high but not bad.

You don't really need a guide at FATS- trails are well marked. Unless someone is really allergic to climbing, I would suggest: Deep Step ccw to the connector trail to the northern loops (Big Rock and Tower); you will be on a short stretch of paved road and then Forest Service Road; turn right on Big Rock (ccw) up to the connector to Tower; ride Tower cw, finish the Big Rock loop ccw (best downhills in the CSRA); FS road and paved road back to the connector, then finish Deep Step ccw. That will take 2.5-3 hours. Refuel at the parking lot and head out to the other trails, my preference is ccw. It will be hot, so take plenty of water and plenty of short breaks. Print a map of the trails

Trail in decent shape today considering all the rain, though I did not get past the 4 mile bridge. Several sections very soft from hogs(?) rooting in the trail. Non rider just after the first creek and at the 2 mile cul de sac.

Trail is in rough shape. Needs mowing in the open areas (several briar patches), a bunch of smaller trees down, several bigger trees, all step-overs. Trail is rideable but not enjoyable.

Last Thursday we didn't even make it to the 4 mile bridge due to trees down, some hike-arounds, some step-overs. Grass was not a problem.

Seth and I hand cut several trees and chain sawed about 4 trees today. Non riders still at 2.5 and 5 miles but easy walk overs. Otherwise trail in great shape, grass not very tall yet, and beautiful morning.

Thanks for the cleanup. I think all but 1 or 2 of the big trees were there when I rode on 1/26, which is a good sign. I did not see horse tracks but did see some 4-wheeler tracks. Maybe some of the big trees should be left if it is an area that cannot be easily by-passed.

Good job and much appreciated. I bet the hollow log was a bit tricky.

The lake is really up from the last rain, there is lots of water in the dip about mile 9 and trail is under water in several more spots.

Shirts can be picked up at Andy Jordan's this Wednesday 5-6pm and at Chain Reaction Friday 5-6pm. Chain Reaction has been kind enough to keep the left-overs, which can be picked up any time during their business hours.

Pilcher and I spent the day cutting Modoc. The trail is rideable from the highway to the forest service road back entrance. It has been a while since I have been out there. Someone has cut some of the favorite riders, but more will fall.... It could use a DR in places but being the end of the growing season, we will wait to see what happens. The 4 mile bridge has been moved but is level; there is a big hop to get on from the front side.

The shirts are in!! First pick-up will be Tuesday night at the Sorba-csra meeting at Nacho Mamas, 7pm-7:30pm. I will schedule time at the bike shops and/or trail head and post it. I should get the shirts mailed off to those that chose that option by this Saturday latest.
All the shirts look good, but I think the purple t-shirt is outstanding. I like the polos in red, yellow, black, and dark blue.

This next Thursday (9/12), we will ride Horn Creek trail, back parking lot (boat launch area) at 6pm. You may want to bring a light depending on how many laps we do. We will decide whether to do a BD lap or just ride the single-track.
