This past Sunday a few of us gals started at West Dam headed toward Petersburg. Big ole mess within first 1/2 mile at the rocky section. Two big trees down. Makes for a difficult climb over. Another mess at about mile 5 with a tree or two down. Branches and foliage blocking trail. I think there may have been one more within first 5 miles.
BTW great job Stella on your first ride and Julie's daughter Kate on second. We had fun.

Good luck to all. Count me in with Angela and John as wishing I could be there to support the locals.
A special snot rocket, belching, loud and proud WOOT WOOT to my girl Becky. I'm proud of you and I know you will kick arse!

My girls know im gonna chime in on this. I hate clipless pedals and frankly I grow weary of the clipless pedal Nazis who insist on suggesting what they think is best for me. I tried them and I reached a point that I no longer enjoyed riding. My problem with them was the mental barriers it created. No way was I trying anything remotely uncomfortable. I feel like my skills have improved greatly since switching back to flats and I have no intentions of giving them another try. My feet almost never leave my pedals and i don't give a shit if I'm last to crest the hill. Being comfortable and confident on my bike is my only consideration on this issue. Riding flats doesn't make you an inferior mtn biker.

I know this is last minute but if anyone is still looking to book a site at petersburg, we booked site 12 a few weeks ago for friday - sunday and have had an illness in the family and wont be able to use the site. Hoping someone might want to transfer the site into their name and just give me the $48.00 on Saturday at bikefest.

I am so proud of my homies! Becky and Julie were (and always are) beyond impressive. Great job to all who competed.
In the last pic dustin posted, the bald guy with the pony tail is a great accidental pic.

From my personal observations it seems not all caffeine is the same. I agree. I drink coffee so strong you can stand a spoon up in it. I just love the taste of coffee. It really has no stimulating effect. However, I purchased a bottle of guarana supplement from a health food store and they are no joke. They give me the heebie jeebies. Make you feel like you want to shake your skin off. Needless to say, I still have a full bottle.

Bah sorry I missed the new fox initiation but I was being held hostage in a sardine can in the woods by three hormonal teenagers who commanded me to cook for and entertain them whilst being forced to solve all of their myriad problems all the while suffering their grumblings of boredom. I begged them to grant me a short reprieve so that I could attend; however, they threatened to subject me to continued blows to my eardrums of the same Taylor Swift CD for the remainder of the weekend.
Glad to see we have new faces. Looking forward to riding with you gals!

Nice sweaty ride this a.m. Wanted to quit a few miles into big rock but Becky talked me out of it. Thanks! Sweet fancy Moses that river was brisk and refreshing. First time kayaking but I think I'm hooked it was beautiful out there. Thanks Becky it was a blast.

Took the nephew to the trail yesterday. He did quite well. Three things going clockwise: 1. Where the kids are hanging out and swimming, looks like something fell and there is a bit of mess hanging over the trail low enough that I had to walk under. 2. Before you get to the back entrance, there is a small tree across the trail about knee level we had to climb over. 3. Some punkass degenerate(s) spray painted the sign and post at the back entrance. Doesn't render the sign unreadable but its there nonetheless.

Impressive! I have been holding off taking my 12 year old nephew over there until he gets more acclimated to his bike but after reading your post, it seems my concerns are unfounded (we are dealing with a kid who hasnt spent much time on a bike).
Thanks a ton John and Julie for fixing that hole. It was a pain in the arse.

A great day indeed. Bartram was lovely. Thanks for the recognition. I know its not a lot to some people, but I am extremely proud to say I finished that ride. Lets put it this was, I now have a keen grasp of the significance of As Master...ai caramba! I'm trepidatiously looking forward to the next big goal...all 6 at FATS.
It was nice to pass by the guys on their extreme adventure. Fresh as daisies! Nice job fellas!

Wow! And I agree, the skinny jeans phase is revolting. God help me my nephew wears them and it drives me batty. "Are these your jeans or your sisters?". Its funny how just over a decade ago the JNCO giant wide legs were the skater trend and now its "my pants are so tight I cant feel my toes". Silly

So proud of you ladies (and Michael too)! Yall are inspiring. Great pictures too. I loved reading the report but loved even better seeing you guys tell the story on the ladies rides. You could still see the excitement in your faces just talking about it. Its funny because like David I too read this post right before bed the other night and dreamed that Barbara and I were doing a running event of some sort together. Naturally I was ill prepared and had to rely on Barbara for everything. Congrats again.

The trail was wonderful and the weather was nice too although cold. I really enjoy that trail. I should ride it more often. Always a great time with the gals. Becky it seems everytime you and I take a pic together I'm always standing on the up side of the hill which makes me look even more amazonish..haha....and what about that lovely helmet/hat getup. Hey I had to stay warm!

First time on HK and it was a blast. I did a little leaf skiing too. Almost skied my arse down the hill into the lake. What a beautiful trail and a great day. A great change of pace with a group of great gals. Looking forward to the ETT ride next month. Its definately worth the drive.
