Thought some of the Fat Tire Foxes might enjoy the news that Barbara (yetichick), Julie (ooliej) and I all "placed" in the Dog-Gone-Cold (or wet I should say) 5k race yesterday. It was so much fun with lots of rain, mud and hounds. We even saw Jon Taylor (jtaylor) out there running with his wife and dogs. I'm posting a pre-race pic of our "team" which includes Michael (azdrawdy) as well as a post race pic of us ladies. Highly recommend this race to anyone who loves to help rescue animals. Fat Tire Foxes Rule! ;D I'd also like to recommend another race that is coming up on Feb. 11. It's called the Winter Challenge in Columbia, SC and I know a number of local mtn bikers who have done it either on a team or solo. It consists of a 7 mile trail run, 6 mile paddle and 10 mile mtn bike. I did it on a team a few years ago and it is a blast. Yetichick and I are both competing solo this year and I've heard rumblings that there are some folks looking for a team so if there is any interest "post up" and we will have a cohort there. We also have a spare kayak (not fancy but it floats) if there are any takers. winterchallenge.eventbrite.com/ (I'll also post this in regular forum.)

Great morning with friends! Looking forward to the Winter Challenge, too! Rather fun mixing in running with mountain biking! The Winter Challenge will be my first triathlon. Considering some off road duathlons in the future.

Great job gals! Having those goals reaching out in the distance is an excellent way to build fitness into your lives - you know you have to make the time! Particularly important this time of year when it is easy to make excuses!

Thanks Dustin. Even though mtn biking is my favorite sport, I've found that running compliments my riding and helps with endurance and climbing. Plus, it's nice to mix things up a bit...cross training can keep you from getting burned out and running is great when you travel or if the trails are too wet to ride.

I knew we'd take sh-- from you Heather!! ;D You're just as bad at sandbagging as we are. Oh well, we'll be dragging you out there to compete on our ladies' mtn bike team soon so you may as well get used to that idea.

I've found that the only way to make running less sucky is to run. Eventually your brain will stop thinking about how much running sucks, and will start producing endorphins instead. Which is the point.

Thanks for the congrats Heather. I agree with wooglin, it does get easier and once the endorphins kick in you forget about the pain. I'm looking forward to the next ladies' ride and doing some extra miles with you guys like we did last time. Woot woot!
