I have never done a triathlon; however, I know you said you were going to be at the Ladies Ride on Sunday, and one of our regulars just did a ladies' triathlon this last summer up at Lake Lanier. I am sure she will be a wealth of information. If she is there this Sunday, I will introduce you to her.

YETI AS-Rsl. It has 3.75" of travel, and I wouldn't replace it with anything else.

"Patrol mode" or "not Patrol mode," we have never just gone by someone that needed assistance. Never. Examples include assistance with directions, offering a spare tube to fix a flat, showing them where they can bail on the trail because it is getting dark and they have too many miles left to walk out and they didn't bring water, offering our water, going back to get the vehicle to drive back and pickup someone who is hurt while his buddies bailed on him, etc., etc., etc. What we don't ALWAYS do is educate someone on wearing a helmet. Work has been a bear lately (putting it nicely). When I get home, and I can't let work go, we get on our bikes, head for the trail, and ride as hard as we can. I am not in "patrol mode" and while I would stop to help someone in need, I am not stopping to tell someone he should be wearing a helmet.
There are times to patrol and educate, and times to just ride!

I hope the person that left the notice at FATS found his wheel. I don't think this was the same wheel. The guy that left the wheel at Hickory Knob lives in Greenville, and works at one of the bicycle shops. He drove 100 miles south to HKSP, rode several laps, put his bike on the rack and drove off, forgetting his front wheel. He was almost home when he remembered the wheel, turned around, and drove straight back to HKSP. When we found the wheel, we debated on what to do with it. We know that people from McCormick, Calhoun Falls, and the Greenwood area ride HKSP, so figured the best thing to do was take the wheel up to the registration counter. About 30 minutes later he was at the registration counter asking if anyone had turned in a wheel.

We also rode Deep Step, Brown Wave, and the Skinny today. It was very noticeable that work had been done on Deep Step. Much appreciated! The trail was fast and fun!

Looking forward to seeing the article. Michael also sent him some pictures, so it will be interesting to see which ones he found usable for his article. He had asked for pictures from all of our trails.
We do seem to get the media attention!

Wish I was available. Saturday is our monthly Ladies Ride at the Bartram Trail. Since I lead that ride, I won't be able to head out to FATS. My husband is out of town all weekend, so he won't be able to help out either. I hope some others are available. Enjoy your trip down and the FATS trail!

We have ridden this trail many times, but the last couple of years we have been on the trail maybe twice. The last time was the National Trails Day in June. We know that trail, and yet we got off track several times. You are right in that the trail needs to be marked. Our plans, as a chapter, are to put signs on all the trails, and hopefully that will include Baker's Creek.
We met Connie (from Greenwood) this Saturday on the Bartram Trail. She, and several other ladies, were camping up at Baker Creek and rode the trail. They had a map, but said the map covered the forest roads, and not the trail.
I am guessing that you missed several sections of the trail as it is definitely NOT a beginner's trail. It has its own dynamics, which do not include fast flowing corners. It is a challenge to ride it, tough in sections, but always a good ride. I suggest you go again with someone who knows the trail before you totally write it off as a "never to ride again" trail.

Hey, John! We were camping at HKSP this weekend and rode the trail yesterday. We rode the Lakeview Loop, Turkey Ridge, and then the Lakeview Loop again. About a month ago we took a really slow lap on the Lakeview Loop and stopped and clipped a lot of the face slappers. We would like to take the DR mowers out there between now and next spring, but would need some help. Running a mower on each side of just the Lakeview Loop would be 14 miles of mowing. That's a lot.
Love the trail! It is a lot of fun to ride it!!! Seems like the last time you two were there we ran across each other on the trail. That almost happened again today!

We had a great turnout for our ride, the temps were perfect, and there was a nice breeze off the lake. Here is the group picture. Austin, Miranda, Kim, Angela, Susan, Alice, Barbara Hey, Cyclemama, we enjoyed riding with you and your daughter. How far did you two make it before turning around? We waited for a bit at the top of the gravel hill, went back to see where you were, but figured you had turned around. Thank you for coming out, and we look forward to riding with you and Austin again. Watch the main page (sorbacsra.org) for an announcement of the August ride--date to be determined. Barbara

Celeste, you are welcome! Now we just need some trees that are just the right size, and just the right angle, to fall on the Bartram trail. That way you can practice what you learned! HA! The Bartram trail is a great trail to practice corners! Most of the corners can be done with just the body angulation, but there are a few where you can practice the weighted pedal skill.
Hey, I have your water bottle. I'll return it at the next Ladies Ride.
We did have fun!!!

Thanks to the ladies that turned out for our Ladies Beginner Skills Clinic. We worked on balance, turns, weighting, unweighting, and getting over small obstacles. We worked on the "brick road", a skinny and the log pile. Here are a few pictures: Slow Race Celeste Melissa Mallory Becky Brick Road Stick Hop Turns Group Ride We rode part of the Horn Creek loop to practice some of the skills we had learned. All the "students" were new to mountain biking, and were great at trying out and practicing new skills. The heat was bearable seeing that we had shade from the canopy, water, powerade, watermelon, grapes, and Becky's banana bread with chocolate chips. Thank you to Paul and Michael for helping out with spotting on the larger logs and log pile, and to Becky for helping teach the class. Michael couldn't take pictures of all the obstacles as he was busy helping out. Thanks to Teresa, too, for the moral support and hanging out and helping. Barbara

It is the holiday weekend, and rain was in the forecast; however, we had a beautiful day for our ladies ride. The trail was perfect--tacky and no slippery pine straw. The temps were just right, and we had 10 ladies show up for the ride. It doesn't get better than this!!!! Two other names:
Nat and Rachel (IMBA Trail Crew) were here for the Grand Opening. Rachel led a crew building the rock sidewalk (for lack of a better term) on the bottom half of the Skinny. Alice was part of the work crew, and we have always referred to it as "Alice's Restaurant."
Michael and I have another name for another section of the Skinny. Riding the Skinny clockwise, go through a power line sweeper, and re-enter the trail right where the telephone insulators are sitting along the side as you enter. You go uphill at this point, with several steep rollers. We were riding with Becky, and she was hammering up those hills, talking the whole way. I wasn't saying a word--couldn't!!! That section is "Becky's Hill."
