Larry & I really enjoyed volunteering for this years Ironman Augusta and would really like to do the Ironman next year! For those of you who have done a triathalon before....do you have any tips as far as how to train? We are both good swimmers, but it's usually in a pool...lol! We've done 30 - 50 miles on our bikes (mostly flat land) in one ride. Larry ran in the military, years ago but I never have...so that will probably be the hardest part.
Thanks, Michelle

I have never done a triathlon; however, I know you said you were going to be at the Ladies Ride on Sunday, and one of our regulars just did a ladies' triathlon this last summer up at Lake Lanier. I am sure she will be a wealth of information. If she is there this Sunday, I will introduce you to her.

Thanks Barbara...that will be great! I always say I'm a strong, healthy overweight person...lol! But I've got to get in great shape to be able to do something like that.

There is a sprint triathlon (much shorter than the Ironman) at Langley Pond.... 750 (.5 mile) meter swim in open water, 12.4 (20k) bike, 3.1 (5k) run It be my first triathlon to see if it is something I enjoy. Sprint Triathlons are designed for newbies. I'm told the wining time including the transitions (T1 & T2) will be between 60-70 minutes... my personal goal is less than 90. This Sprint Tri is put on by University Hosp, but I believe it is open to everyone. ( there is a International distance Triathlon going off before the sprint) It will be in April 2010 www.setupevents.com/?fuseaction=event_detail&eventID=1126

You can do it! Go for it! I feel people need to sign up for events the will push them. It sound like you could do 10k, But why bother. Take the next step. Start with the group rides at outspoken or chainreaction....But sign up asap! You will start down the road of a great journey. You will find that what you will remember about the race in 2010 is not the day you cross the finish line, but the people you meet along the way that helped you train. Good luck.

Quiver, Thanks for the info! That would be great to do....and help me see if I can do next years IronMan...lol! I was thinking 90 minutes to swim, bike and run is not much time. I ride a mountain bike and forget the street bikes can go much faster. Michelle
