The trees are definitely the worst thing. It could use mowing in the usual sections, but its not as bad as I have seen it. There are probably some other trails that need mowing worse, like lower/middle Wine or the back of Turkey. Of course with the Bakers Dozen posted, riders might start checking out the trail. It would be a little discouraging in its current state.

I was happy to be riding today, but the ride was not particularly fast or fun - many trees down, mostly sections 2 & 3. All sections had some down. Some riders, some not. Too many of each. Rode 3 laps anyway.

You better stay home - they are still out.

Of course. It is the tunnel under Riverbluff Drive in The Rapids, constructed in the first phase of the Greeneway in 1996. What is significant is that it was installed by city crews. It's nothing fancy, but still a good feat for a public works department.

I had to go way back to find this:

I was afraid of that - I don't have many trail pics. I'll see what I can find...

Hiked the upper section with the family today and cut out the remaining trees. All clear now. You will still get a face full of slappers in the middle section though.

Rode Turkey today. The hard work was evident and greatly appreciated. There are still a few trees that require crawling over, under and around, starting at about 5.5 mi.

Rode Wine (& Turkey) today. There are 3 or 4 trees down on the upper section that will need to be cut out. Tread is good & firm.

The trees on Wine Creek have been cleared (at least the ones I knew about). The trail is still in need of mowing/trimming from Key road to about the "big dip". I did leave a log stack in the trail. If anyone thinks it is unsafe, feel free to remove it.

I'm always amazed at how these threads can divert from the original subject. My wild animal experience was with nesting Canada geese at Hickory Knob. I thought I would just ride by. They came after me with wings spread and heads down. The trail turned sharply and the geese cut the corner and headed me off. They chased me for a long ways. They are faster runners than you would think.

I can probably (prolly) get out Saturday and do some trail clearing/chain saw work. Before the storm I was planning to get on Wine Creek. I'm not sure that's where it's mostly needed now. Anyone else planning to do anything?

Are any of these cases where the canopy is blocking the trail, or are they just tree trunks that can be climbed over?

There is a BIG pine down at about 5.5 miles, right where the trail turns away from Stevens Creek. The canebrake is getting thick from that point on as well. Other than that the trail is wanting wheels.

I rode Wine plus Turkey/Modoc connector (Creampuff? route). All the trails were in amazingly good condition for this time of year, other than the trees on Wine Brian mentioned. No evidence of flooding on Wine. As has been said by others recently, if you're not riding these trails you're missing out. Give FATS a rest.

If I were riding it solo, driving from NA, I would drop SAG at West Dam, drive on to Keg, do the Christmas Party ride, then Bartram out & back. Bartram out and back at the end would be mentally tough, though.

Riding in from West Dam, how far is this - 5 miles past Petersburg?
