Rode at FATS today, Brown Wave, then Skinny, then Great Wall with the Ikon 2.35's, front and rear. Front was 20psi, rear was 18psi. They transformed the bike completely. It rolls so much faster, absorbs impacts better, and the traction, well..it was sticky the entire time, even on wet roots and leaves.

Great deal and a great guy to deal with, my daughters love it and will use it. Thanks again.

I also wanted to point out that the Ikon 2.2 and 2.35 shouldn't even be called the same name. The only similarity is the tread style. The knobs on the 2.35 are bigger and deeper, and the differences go far beyond just the difference in width. The 2.35 has a much higher volume. It seems I can run it at much lower pressures as well. We will have to see how the trails go this weekend.

The Ikon 2.35 is my goto rear tire also. But this time of year I switch to a Specialized Ground control rear. Rode this weekend at FATS and noticed some slippage so I'll probably switch em out this week. I've got them installed and put on some Ergon grips with bar ends. Going to give them a try this weekend. Currently running 18 in the front and 20 in the rear. Do the higher volume tires require less pressure?
Thanks

Rained most of today, was not a deluge but steady rain for the whole day. The trails will be too wet to ride for the next couple of days, please do not ride wet trails1 Thank you!
Assuming no rain between now and then, would Sunday be acceptable?

I ordered a Rock Shox Reba RLT for my Niner EMD with a rigid steel front fork. I had planned to do it myself, but after reading online I don't have the tools or expertise to do this correctly.
What shop or person in town would you guys recommend to get this done?
Thanks in advance.

Maybe I am old school, or maybe I am just a crappy rider, but I ordered some Ritchey WCS stubby bar ends. I just can't climb worth a damn without them. It might have something to do with my rear traction issues. I normally stand up and pull up on the barends to transfer my weight to the rear tire when climbing.
I also like narrow 580mm bars, flat...none of these new wide riser bars feel right to me.

I am 190lbs, and have tried 24-30 lbs. I am currently using 28 rear and 26 front, on Stans Arch wheels setup tubeless. The Ikon is definitely worn, perhaps it needs to be replaced. I use clipless pedals and pull up on the handlebars putting my weight towards the rear of the bike and my pedals. The Ikon has great traction, but it seems it just can't pull it off I'm really pedaling hard. Yeah sounds like it's just worn out, your tire pressures sound right on. Also try and smooth out your pedal stroke when going hard...I know I tend to get sloppy and pedal squares instead of circles when really pushing it up a climb!
I rode out at Modoc on Sunday with a CST Ouster 2x25 front and rear, and started off at 28front and 30 rear. Lowered the pressure probably 7 or 8 times throughout the ride and never got to a pressure that was comfortable (the bike is fully rigid) and had confidence inspiring traction.
I ordered two Ikon 2.35 3C / EXO / TR and will try running them at lower pressure and see how I like them.
I have noticed the photos of the Ikons online show sort of a wear bar in the middle of the tread knobs, that isn't visible on mine. Must be worn out.

I don't ride road much, but I do have a Trek FX hybrid I commute to work on occasionally. I did the survey.

I'm currently using a Maxxis Ikon 29 x 2.25 tubeless. I've tried multiple different pressures. It works fairly well, but for climbing in areas like FATS, Boyd Pond, etc, it just doesn't cut it traction wise. This tire is fairly worn and could use to be replaced anyway.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a tire meeting this criteria that would excel in an area like FATS?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. When I said older style I was referring to the EMD frame design. The 2013+ or so (not sure of exact year) are those ugly hydroformed frames. I actually prefer the tubular, and it's lighter.
1 1/8 straight, 15 or 20mm. Quick release should be fine and I need it on the front because I remove the front wheel for transport. I'm 180lbs.

That Trek is definitely not a MTB, and you're right to be concerned with the fork/wheels/tires. The tires will have very little grip and volume, which will leave the rims vulnerable to getting hit when you bottom out the tire. The rims aren't made for that kind of abuse, and the wheels in general aren't going to be stiff with only 20 spokes each. I would ride very gingerly till you can get something more suitable. I'd stick to Bartram personally, it's a lot smoother and flatter. Before I bought the Niner EMD, I did ride out at Horn Creek. I dropped the PSI on the tires of the Trek FX to 50PSI. It has 700 x 38mm Kenda Rain V-Cuts, so at least they had some tread. The bike did incredibly well, considering it isn't made for such things. I was very "gingerly" on it though, because I was nervous about the carbon fork, a bent wheel, or a pinch flat. My wife was riding my old Raleigh M60 26er that's stock except for some Avid BB5 brakes. The Niner EMD is an awesome ride, and I don't think it needs a fork. I've ridden Keg Creek, Augusta Canal, Deepstep, Big Rock + Tower, Great Wall, and Skinny + Brown wave on it since I bought it from Nitro. It's a lightweight tank that just rolls over s**t. If I was to get a fork, I would want an entry level Air fork, nothing super expensive but I would still want quality. I was thinking of a Rock Shox Recon Silver or Recon Gold, 100mm 29er fork. I realize the bike I purchased can do 15mm or 20mm, but what sort of steerer tube do I need? I see 1 1/8, tapered, and I don't know what the EMD uses. I've seen forks a few people have bought, but it was for the newer hydroformed EMD frame, and I'm not sure if the older tubular one is different. Nitro, or anyone else have any info? Thanks

Any chance you got a fork to sell with it? I think I would like to have both. Message me if the bike is still available, thanks.

My concern is mostly the carbon fork on the FX. It's a Bontrager Satellite Plus. Tires and wheels are also a concern. The bike has Kenda Rain V-cuts on it, which really aren't made for any type of off road. I lowered them to the minimum rating on the tire of 50PSI, but am still concerned about a pinch flat. This is the exact bike. www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/2007/archive/trek/75fx/#/us/en/archive-model/details?url=us/en/bikes/2007/archive/trek/75fxThe only thing I have changed is going to flat carbon bars that were narrower, different seat, carbon seatpost, flipped stem, the Kenda tires, and Avid SD7 brake levers. It's in dire need of some Kool Stop pads as well. Thanks for your reply.

Going to have to rock out on the FX 7.5 @ FATS on sunday...I'll let my wife take the Raleigh M60. I've rode it all over FATS and it's quite capable for an old rig w/Deore and Rock Shox Judy. Tried to buy 2 bikes, no response. Anyone?
