I was just in contact with the USFS and they acknowledged that their law enforcement officer, along with a McCormick County Sheriff's Deputy, was at Modoc/Stevens Creek Trail this morning investigating the reported assault.
Please be careful and we'll update this thread with more information as it becomes available.

A little more work this morning for the Wildwood Games. We created a new rake-n-ride section connecting Bartram to doubletrack trail, hacked our way through a jungle-like section of doubletrack, (one of us) got stung multiple times by yellowjackets living under a rider, connected the rake-n-ride section at the southern end of the airstrip to doubletrack, mowed Bartram Trail where it crosses the airstrip, mowed several other sections of overgrown doubletrack, and we improved the downhill rake-n-ride entrance to creek crossing #2 (below dam). A big thank you to JP3, Seth, and Tom Z. for giving up their Fourth of July morning. Note to self: take care of yellowjackets living under rider before the Wildwood Games. Seth gave the rake-n-ride section, 2nd creek crossing below the dam, a test ride. Video clip is at the following URL (no log in required): www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=717350614998779

PF and JP3 out today at Keg Creek - finished blazing the trail, lopped ~5 miles of face slappers, and removed the root ball that was blocking one bridge. Trail is nearly ready for the WW Games. Pics from today, including JP3 giving the bridge repair a virtual test ride.

Is there a parking fee at Fell's Camp? SORBAcsra is working on the parking fee at LCHT/Fell Hunt Camp for the event tomorrow. Before filling out the fee envelope tomorrow morning, look for Paul or Angela, they may have a little something for each of our guest vehicles

Either I was in the zone and blitzed it or the big rider tree on Great Wall has been cut. It was cut. S/he who wields the saw, makes the call and I wasn't quick enough tagging that big boy with a log tag.

Big Rock and Tower were perfect this morning.
Last night we saw several people coming off the southern loops and they did not look muddy/dirty. YMMV.

Proceeds from the 2013 Lock to Lock ride were used to purchase and install a bike repair stand on the Augusta Canal Towpath, across from the pumping station. You can see more pics on our FB page goo.gl/aAL7BY.

This year, Augusta Ironman 70.3 is Sunday, September 28th and the organizers are doing volunteer signup differently this year. The URL to signup is initially private (why they want to make it more difficult to have volunteers signup is not clear). We are suppose to have 75% (15 people) of our volunteers signed up by June 28, 2014 and 20 volunteers signed up before August 8, 2014. Once we hit 20 volunteers, our signup link will go public on the Ironman volunteer signup web site. This new system also affects if/when we are eligible to apply for an Ironman grant, which support SORBAcsra trail projects. Please take a moment to sign up, sooner than later, as a volunteer. SORBA-CSRA is again volunteering at bike water station number 2 (the same location as last year) on Sunday September 28, 2014. We have been asked to sign up and the information below will guide you. Below is the info on how to register as a volunteer for Ironman Bike Station #2. Sign up instructions to volunteer at Ironman water station #2 (SORBAcsra) 1. Click the below link. If clicking does not work, than past the link into your browser address field. 2. www.doitsports.com/volunteer/join-protected-group.tcl?event_id=203292 3. From the dropdown box, select SORBA-CSRA. Enter the password ironman. 4. You will now be at the Volunteer Registration Page for “Joining SORBA-CSRA”. Don’t get confused, you are not joining the SORBA organization, you are only signing up to volunteer at the Bike Course Aid Station #2. 5. Complete the form, agree to the waiver and submit. 6. You will receive a confirmation email from “Confirmation” with the subject line Volunteer Signup for Ironman 70.3 Augusta. Thank you for your support.

We had 14 folks show up to enjoy the cool temperature and lake breeze this morning at Keg Creek Trail. Other than a few low hanging trees (minus the dogwood that rang someone's bell) and vines that need to be pruned, the trail was in great shape. Here is a link to pictures that Angela shared. p.s. If you lost your sunglasses, email sorba.csra@gmail.com to identify.

We (JP3, PF, and SY) cleared four downed trees near Boulder Creek. There may be one more downed tree somewhere in the middle of the trail and we saw fresh four-wheeler tracks near the back door/Keg Pointe subdivision. Otherwise, the trail is good to go for the Best Dam Ride next weekend.

We (JP3, PF, and SY) cleared, via chainsaw, 5 non-riders between mile markers 11 and 13.5 and another non-rider near Pburg (pond near campground). Should be good to go for the Best Dam Ride next weekend.

They are burning at FATS today (4/13) south side of Deep Step and Great Wall, Skinny, and Brown Wave were closed. North side of Deep Step, Big Rock and Tower were open. How long do they keep the trails closed after a burn? This afternoon, the USFS burn guy told me Thursday.

Be aware that the USFS has notified us that they have planned a prescribed burn on Skinny loop for this Sunday. If the burn proceeds as planned, at least the Skinny loop will be closed until Wednesday. It is possible that other nearby loops (Brown Wave, Great Wall) could be closed due to the burn as well.
As always, prescribed burns are dependent upon many factors, including weather. Sometimes the USFS is slow in notifying us when a planned burn has been canceled/postponed. YMMV.

Or...you might investigate renting one of these at the Evans Town Center ( CC Bcycle kiosk). I haven't seen them in person, but they are serviced by Outspokin' so call the shop and they should be able to tell you whether the bikes are FATS-worthy. Edit: from the second picture in the article, it looks like the bikes have a basket for your camelbak

Unfortunately, I don't think any of the local shops rent bikes (but you should try Outspokin, just in case). Although FATS gets a lot of visitors, not many need bike rentals like out west.

SORBA-CSRA was at Hickory Knob State Park this morning at O'dark thirty, in case rain developed and trails expertise was needed for the XTERRA race today. Fortunately, no rain, cool temperatures, and Lakeview Loop was in great shape, if not dusty with pollen. We did see several familiar faces including our XTERRA friend Marcus Barton and CSRA locals Troy Miller, Chad Kimbrell, and Candace Zipf. A few action pics can be found on our FB page (no login required): HKSP XTERRA 2014.

Outstanding weather for the April Explore the Trails Ride at Horn Creek. Nine riders, one bloody knee, near perfect trail conditions, and fun was had by all. Thank you for your support.
