We didn't have this ride and cookout in 2013 because we had to rally the volunteers to do a big maintenance project on the Hickory Knob Lakeview Loop but here are a couple of pics from the 2012 event! sorbacsra.proboards.com/post/21106

Long Cane may be the best kept riding secret in the CSRA. Only rode there once and could not believe how awesome the trail was. Did about 28 miles that day. Planning on being there. Would also be interested in an earlier start to do either ride the outer loop or a figure eight. The "Antelope" with a Long Cane paint job

Thanks for the reminder Brian - this ride/cookout will not take place if it is raining or if the trail is not in decent condition. There were definitely some areas that were way too mucky during the 2012 ride. We will be posting updates on the forum!

As of now, the trail is in awesome shape, we have been doing a lot of mowing and lopping.
In the words of BV. "Its a big cookie buffet!"

That is great news, hopefully the weather will hold and the trail conditions will be great for our National Trails Day ride and cookout! Just as a reminder, you have until Tuesday, June 3rd at midnight to sign up to be in the drawing for the Thomson Elite seat post or stem. These great Thomson products retail for nearly a hundred dollars each and either would be a good, quality addition to your bike. You must sign up on Survey Monkey by the deadline and attend the cookout to qualify for the drawing! Come join us, this is always a great outing! SURVEY MONKEY

We have 60+ people signed up for the National Trails Day celebration, ride and cookout! This is great news and should be our best National Trails Day celebration yet. We will be keeping an eye on the weather, right now the trails are dry and a little rain shouldn't impact the event. Check back on this forum before heading out if you are in doubt. DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR FOLDING CHAIR IF YOU HAVE ONE! We will have ride leaders at this event but for those who like to have it here is the map of the trail, we will have some on hand at the event as well! There are two bridges blocking FS road 505 at the bridge. This will not affect riding but if you were driving in via the USFS roads you need to be aware of the gates. They are marked on the picture below with red X's: DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR FOLDING CHAIR IF YOU HAVE ONE!

It appears that LCHT has not received any additional rain in the past few days. Things are looking really good for the event tomorrow. We will still keep an eye on things today since this time of year our weather tends to be volatile but will post any updates here about the weather and the event tonight. Just be sure to check here before you head out tomorrow morning!

Is there a parking fee at Fell's Camp?

I'm pretty sure the fee is $3. We rode last night and the trails are very dry, like Angela mentioned if a quick shower blows thru the trails are in great shape and should easily handle it.

Is there a parking fee at Fell's Camp? SORBAcsra is working on the parking fee at LCHT/Fell Hunt Camp for the event tomorrow. Before filling out the fee envelope tomorrow morning, look for Paul or Angela, they may have a little something for each of our guest vehicles

Even if you did not sign up by the cutoff (to be including in the drawing for the Thomson Elite seatpost or stem) please feel free to come up and join us for this event. These trails are amazing and I heard they are the best they have been in years. If you are coming and would like to join us for the cookout, a quick email to me at SORBAcsra would be greatly appreciated so I can make sure we have a hot dog or hamburger for you after the ride!

What a fantastic event, everything that could go right did: - The weather was perfect and the temps were in the high 70s and low 80s
- The trails were in the best condition they have been in a decade. Much of the credit goes to the Greenwood mtbers who worked really hard getting the trail ready for this event.
- We had 63 riders and a total of about 75 people come out.
- There was plenty of food and grillmaster Michael Drawdy kindly took the heat and smoke to produce some amazing hamburgers and hotdogs.
- We made new friends and saw & rode with many longtime friends.
- Met the owners of the new Greenwood bike shop - Emerald City Bikes.
- Thomas Rossini was on hand from Rossini Photography to snap some shots.
- Ashby Stokes, amazing acoustic guitar player (and a really good mountain biker too), performed and that was truly the icing on an amazing day.
People arriving this morning.... Even into the overflow parking (actually they are the ones that found the shade) USFS stopped by to make sure everything was good! Getting ready to roll Relaxing and eating Hard to smile when you are hot and smokey! Ashby Stokes played some great tunes! Many thanks to the volunteers who made this happen, the Greenwood mountain bikers who, as always, are great hosts, Ashby Stokes for keeping us entertained and all the riders and their families who came out to participate in this great National Trails Day event!

It was great participating in this event. Please let us know if we can help support any future SORBACSRA events! Sam it was so great meeting you and Joanna. Having support for an event this size was very, very appreciated! Looks like Emerald City Bikes has a lot of fans, there were a lot of great looking ECB jerseys out on the trails.
