Hi all, I'll be in the area for work next week and will have a day to burn (Tue 15th), so I thought we would try to take a day on the FATS trails. I can bring my bike, but my buddy will need a rental. I'm getting no luck from Chain Reaction or Andy Jordan's. Any ideas of other options? We'll be driving up from Savannah (I live in CO). Thanks for the help!!

Unfortunately, I don't think any of the local shops rent bikes (but you should try Outspokin, just in case). Although FATS gets a lot of visitors, not many need bike rentals like out west.

dgaddis1: Thanks. Reed Creek is on the opposite side from the direction we'll be coming (from Savannah). I'd hate to miss the opportunity ride FATS!

Also my understanding is the Bicycle Peddler's bikes can only be taken on the paved trails and the towpath. He is not covered for area mountain bike trails.
I did speak to a bike shop in Savannah and although he rents bikes, normally only road or city bikes. He did ask how tall your friend is, he said might have an option.

Or...you might investigate renting one of these at the Evans Town Center ( CC Bcycle kiosk). I haven't seen them in person, but they are serviced by Outspokin' so call the shop and they should be able to tell you whether the bikes are FATS-worthy. Edit: from the second picture in the article, it looks like the bikes have a basket for your camelbak

I heard back from Outspokin (love the name) and they have Superfly's (med)! I think I'm set. If any one is (or wants to be) on the FATS trails on the 15th and wants to show a guy from Colorado how the Southeast rides, please join us! Thanks for all the help!

Be aware that the USFS has notified us that they have planned a prescribed burn on Skinny loop for this Sunday. If the burn proceeds as planned, at least the Skinny loop will be closed until Wednesday. It is possible that other nearby loops (Brown Wave, Great Wall) could be closed due to the burn as well.
As always, prescribed burns are dependent upon many factors, including weather. Sometimes the USFS is slow in notifying us when a planned burn has been canceled/postponed. YMMV.

Thanks for letting me know! Is there a USFS site to check for updates? That would be a major bummer.

They are burning at FATS today (4/13) south side of Deep Step and Great Wall, Skinny, and Brown Wave were closed. North side of Deep Step, Big Rock and Tower were open.
