It's the power line that drops off the road to the observatory. Was the original starting point of trail before the upper parking lot was closed.

One footnote. Still one tangle at bottom of free ride but a clear route around it to rider's left. Also talked to park super. He asked all riders and runners to respect his posted signs as he could face big liabilities otherwise if something happened. A truly amazing amount of cleanup has been done there!

Many thanks... Trails in fabulous shape; especially considering all the damage. We were working on a cluster of downed tree tops just past upper bridge and a pile at bottom of free ride when new we over stressed our loopers but you can clamber through both. Will get this weekend.

Rode a Petersburg and Lake Springs loop yesterday. Some seeps but mostly fast and dry. Thanks to the sawyers; all clear with a lot of downed trees recently cut! Just two low ones to duck under;probably bent from prior snow.

Thanks....trail is currently in top notch form. A few of us have been getting a lot of laps in. It's fast, flowy, and fun!

Several of us rode NW from Petersburg today. Lake levels back down but lots of debris at high water line. Also several non riders down plus a big one that almost took out the bridge near MP 11. Broke hand rails but deck is OK.

Some new trees down after the big winds earlier this week. One rider just past boardwalk headed up around ball fields and one non rider near the 7 marker. Otherwise lots of light sticks/deadfall.

Trail is one of the best in the area at handling precipitation. Almost no seeps except one on the nature trail just past old ropes course. Tacky at worst!

Couple of us spent about 5 hours last Friday working on the new section along pond. Lots of leaves/pine straw swept and new growth cut back. Trail just needs riders and is easy to follow again. Trail remains tricky in spots though. Old style riding!

Three of us rode Horn last week reversed. Generally good but significant number of non riders from recent big winds. Also downed leaves in some areas really thick. Again just needs some traffic! Still beautiful colors.

Several of us rode HK yesterday. Great shape; only a few non riders. Still very heavy leaf cover though. Good for the blue blazes! Needs some riders on it.

Rode trails yesterday. Good size tree down on oldest section just into woods past Free Ride, near the old .5 mile marker. Everything dry but pond still higher than normal.

Three of us rode Petersburg and on to lake springs loop before a major mechanical shutdown ride. Trail clear. A few unusual seeps were drying out quickly and should be gone with a couple more warm days.

A couple of us rode and ran trail tonight. Good shape; some recent high pond water levels affecting a couple of spots along the new 1.5 miles added this spring.

Ran and rode trail several times this week. Holding up well through all the rain. Probably still the best around during rainy times. Also saw a lot of turkeys (birds) and a few deer. Pond level is back down to near normal as well.

Rode/hiked it today. 15 non riders down. We cleared some of the lighter stuff but the two bridges are the main problem. First has 4 planks snapped in the middle, the second was flattened by big tree down and is a scramble to get across.Trail not water damaged at all.

Cool and drizzly there this am, 43 degrees, but trails in great shape. Downed trees on Lake Spring all cut as well as entrance from West Dam.
