Trail was fast and dry yesterday except for the 3 usual seeps from petersburg to and around lake Springs. One non rider down around mp 5 and another about mid way on Lake Springs. Lot of trail runners and hikers out too; flowers blooming!

In the meantime, some trail updates for upcoming ETTR at Boyd. 1. Main parking lot is just a bit muddy in one end, mostly dry all along playground fence line. Overflow parking usually available across street at soccer fields. 2. The Moccasin bypass reroute entrance is marked by a barrier fence, the re-route returns rider to old Main trail at bottom of Mocassin and bypasses the rutted out original line. 3. There are two standalone trail segments new since last years ETTR, "4 Logs" and "Hero". Both are signed and depart the main trail and then return to Main just a few feet away. They are tighter and harder than Main and can be simply skipped if desired. 4. Two options exist for the Kabooki DH; the top is blocked by a simple barrier fence given the two sharp drops midway down. Experienced riders have been riding it but correct line and speed are needed. An alternate route starting near upper bench is roughed in, has a tight side hill (simple hike a bike) turning entrance before rolling down and out to Kabooki exit. This will be further improved going forward. 5. A number of downed trees on the trail have been cut/removed, thanks to several, and as of today trail is fast and dry.

Thanks for all the feedback. Have been on travel and unable to post. Agree that someone is really quick with a saw on perfectly good riders; yes it is same folks who built old main now doing the recent new segments, part of logic was to recreate what old trail was like originally circa 1998 before it got smoothed in but also agree some bench cutting is in order. The project has been very well supported by park staff and Aiken PRT. Work efforts will resume in early fall when "fewer" Mister no legs and slightly cooler. We will solicit that sweat equity mentioned!

We have added couple of new trail sections this week, (again off and around the Kabooki bowl) under construction. They are currently taped off but interested in any feedback about their "flow". We are inclined toward old school East Coast tight and twisty, think Eastern Woods Research bikes but let us know if it gets too annoying and we can straighten out a little bit!

Thanks for the info. As part of our GAIT amd SORBA Boyd trail improvement project, we are developing a sign package with Aiken park management that would implement segregation of different users. General agreement so far that the tight north west side of pond trails are for trail runners and mountain bikers. Short sight lines, tricky terrain in spots, intentionally narrow and side hill sections, and equine trail damage support that split. Hopefully the final results will accomplish that. And the boardwalk bridge is runners and bikers only per common sense! Unfortunately one of the conditions for the Langley Pond trail land access was apparently for it to be designsted an equestrian and hikers trail. Hopefully to be re-visited!

Quick trail improvement update. Just opened another new segment off the climb up to the bench before the Kabooki downhill. It loops off to the riders left and eventually returns via a nice uphill to same place. Its been ridden through several times, but still is soft and loamy. Lots of twistys and a nice return climb. About 0.30 miles.

Trail improvement update; a new 0.35 mile segment has been added on to one of the See Saw Ridge hairpins. Brings you back to where it starts. Is posted as New Open Segment. Another new segment has been flagged and is under development off the climb towards the bench above Kabooki. It is posted as Under Construction and is NOT yet open. Trail is in good shape otherwise.

Thanks. You will be seeing more new sections being built under a GAIT, SORBA CSRA, Aiken PRT, and Aiken Land Conservancy trail improvement effort. New signage and maps, added length, a few re routes and some sustainability fixes from some of the old ORA originators. A summary is on the SORBA CSRA facebook page. Plan is to get most done before leaves pop and snakes return!!!

The Petersburg area has been flagged and is re opened. A few non riders on it last week that might have been cleared by now. Also a non rider near lake about 4.25 miles in from West Dam. Trail is fast and firm.

Another single tree lightning strike near MP 4.5. Single tree still burning after their big storm last night. Trail damp but in good shape; signs are up routing you around Petersburg trail head with about .5 miles on pavement.

Boyd also fast and dry. The Aiken area tornado dumped a tangle of pines on the road up to the observatory above the ball fields. Many cleared, still one non rider on the loop around them.

Petersburg to dam and Lake Springs currently bone dry and fast. Note a burn along Lake Springs near return road up hill to main Bartram Trail. No indication it was a controlled burn...lightning strike? Trails acted as fire breaks.

Trail is really well rolled in right now. Getting a lot of riders. There is a small detour to left at bottom of Free Ride around deadfall clump but thats it . Lower loop on lake side also recently trimmed back too.

A few of us rode Horn last week. Just a couple of non riders and a few "springy" riders. Good condition overall, just needs riders as it is rapidly growing over and greening up quickly.

Rode petersburg to Lake Springs...fast and dry. One downed tree at waist height near MP 4. Everything just starting to bloom. Saw first bit of wisteria.
