Maybe I have been the only unfortunate soul subjected to the ad at the top of the page containing a disturbing, freakisly muscular Carrotop with his weiner practically showing and the twisted attempt at making him appear...dare I say salacious . But god in heaven please make it go away!! MMmm..gotta love the taste of bile in the morning.

I figured that might be part of the problem....i am definately over-inflated. Close to 50 I think. I definately bounce when I hit those roots which in turn causes the front to come off the ground. Thanks for confirming my suspicions! I only got my new bike about two weeks ago so still tweaking it.

Yalls time in replying is much appreciated! I think the suggestions of a different gear combo may be the ticket. I tend to go at them with some speed but probably too easy a gear. Also, could my tire pressure be contributing to the problem? Sometimes I feel like the psi is too high. I was thinking of letting a little out.

...such as the first hill (and a few others) on even days at the canal track...what is the technique to get to the top. About halfway up I end up with my front tire off the ground and lose it and end up walking the rest. Really frustrating. Ive tried coming forward on the seat but maybe not far enough Should I avoid standing to get up it? Your words of wisdom are much appreciated.

If any of you ladies are interested in getting together to ride more often, i.e. weekday evenings and/or weekends, I would love to meet up. Me (Heather) and Christina try to get out once or twice a week and would love to have the opportunity to learn a few things from some experienced (or not so experienced) riders.

A friend of mine emailed me this info regarding some mountain bike trails at this wildlife management area. Is anybody familiar with these trails? Thanks!
Crackerneck Wildlife Management Area Open to the Public in September Aiken County’s Crackerneck Wildlife Management Area and Ecological Reserve (WMA & ER) will be opened to the general public on selected Saturdays in Sept. Turnout in Sept. will determine whether Crackerneck will continue to be open each Sept. The Crackerneck WMA & ER entrance gate will open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. during the open dates of Sept. 5, 12, 19 and 26. Scouting, some non-consumptive uses and fishing will be allowed. No weapons will be permitted.
Crackerneck WMA & ER consists of approximately 10,470 acres owned by the U.S. Department of Energy. Crackerneck is in Aiken County along the Savannah River and lies south of Jackson, off S.C. 125. Access is through the check station gate off Brown Road.
More Information
Horse back riding is allowed but limited to the 50 mile road system and selected fire breaks. Several areas are suitable for parking trailers, or horses can be off-loaded anywhere along the road system, as long as the trailer does not block the road. Pets are allowed, but must remain in close proximity to owner. A leash is not required; however, the pet must be kept under control to prevent bad interactions with other users, horses, etc.
Helmets are mandatory for all mountain bike riding. Skinface Pond limits on largemouth bass is set at two per person, per day, 14-inch minimum. Bluegill limits will be the same as state creel limits (30). Limited bank fishing opportunities are available at Skinface Pond, so small boats are recommended to improve success. Limited fishing opportunities are also available in three swamp lakes, but these require a jon boat for access. No fishing, boating or other uses are allowed in Upper Three Runs Creek.
To request a detailed map of the Crackerneck Wildlife Management Area and Ecological Reserve, including specific rules and regulations, contact the S.C. Department of Natural Resources office in Aiken County, 5-3663. You may also request the map by email (include your name and postal mailing address and send it to caudellm@dnr.sc.gov or gerald.williams@srs.gov).

Like cornercarver said, being a chic out riding in semi secluded areas alone I want to avoid a chance meeting with Swamp Thing or say a sexual predator or woman hater and I am no Gina Carrano (although I am probably a little overconfident that I can handle myself). I just dont wanna end up on the news.

Thanks for the info. My first time out on a trail I rode Bartram from Petersburg to West Dam and back. That was what sucked me in. Before I was just riding the towpath and greenway for exercise. Havent been on the canal trail yet but hoping to do that ASAP. On a weekend I will hit up the other trails out in SC. Thanks again for all yalls info! Im really looking forward to improving my skills and kicking arse out there.

Right on! Thanx guys. All good advice. As for not crashing....I ate it the first .3 miles I was out there. Welcome to the world of mountain biking huh? I'm bruised up like a crackwhore. So can somebody give me a quick rundown or a link to the difference b/t the FATS trails as far as difficulty, terrain, etc. Havent been able to find anything about them other than their distance.

I rode FATS this weekend for the first time and loved it. New to mountain biking but I adore it already. My question is about the safety of going alone on a weekday after work hours. Are there usually a good number of people out on weekday afternoons as I will be riding alone and I am concerned for safety reasons. I want to ride as often as possible but dont want to risk being in the woods basically alone. Thanks in advance.
