I know there is a huge group ride at FATS on Sat. for the IMBA Summit but wondered if there was a group heading to another trail that day. I love FATS but don't know if I want to be out there with several hundred people. Thanks, Melissa

Thanks for the information - sounds like a trail i will definitely want to get to soon, just don't know if it will be this weekend. I bought an orange vest last year for when i was down there but it ended up raining and i didn't use it and now it's in storage (I think). But I did bring two orange jerseys with me so hopefully those will work. Dustin - I'll post up if we can make it. John - hope to see you on the trails again soon.

What about elevation - is there lots of climbing? Is it well marked?
I love creek crossings - the pictures and video were cool.

I'm coming into town for the holiday and it looks like the weather is going to cooperate. I'm looking to ride something other than FATS.
I was thinking Bartram and/or Mistletoe State park - how are those trails or does someone have another suggestion?
I'm an advanced rider but just looking for a fun, leisurely ride. I've been to FATS, Hickory Knob and Turkey Creek.
Thanks for any advice/suggestions. Melissa

What are the Modoc trails like?
I'm visiting for the holiday and would like to get a ride in somewhere other than FATS.

So does the "wet" status on the home page mean we shouldn't ride FATS or just be prepared to slide all over the place on the slick roots and muddy trail? I'm still trying to decide if our group from Charlotte is going to make the trek down Sat. morning. I'd rather not go down and ride in a mudfest.

I know there is map under the trails tab but is there a better map of FATS available somewhere?

Thanks "imnav8r" - we would appreciate your help. So far not too many beginners have signed up but the week is still young. Would you mind pming me your cell phone # so we can keep in contact sat. morning? Our members don't like to get up too early but I can always suggest an earlier departure time - I'll let you know.
I saw that ride posted on the front page - I hate the two conflict with each other - it would have been great to ride with you and your group - maybe next time.

Hey guys and girls!
The Dirt Divas - a women's mountain biking club from Charlotte - are planning a day trip to FATS on Sat. Aug. 15th. I'm expecting a good turnout (as I've talked up FATS a lot in the past few years) and I've ridden FATS several times but I'm afraid I won't be able to lead all the groups around the trails. I was wondering if any of you FATS veterans would like to spend a day on the trails with the Divas and show us your wonderful trail system.
We usually break into groups for beginner, intermediate and advanced riders and most likely we will have some for each group. There will be both men and women riding this day.
The plan is to get to the trail head around 10:30 and hopefully riding by 11. The intermediate/advanced group will probably do at least 4 of the trails. The beginner group is likely to do 2 - preferably the easiest of the 6.
If you are interested please post up here or you can email me at melissa.magann@mergent.com
We would really appreciate any trail guidance you can provide.
Of course this is all contingent on the weather and if the trails are dry enough.
Thanks, Melissa

Unfortunately no pictures this time - we were having too much fun riding to stop and take any. But I am planning a group ride/day trip for my fellow Dirt Divas next spring - we'll definitely get pictures on that trip. I'm hoping for a group of 15-20 to come down and discover the awesome trails at FATS. I keep telling them what they are missing out on.

Our little group (4) of Dirt Divas from Charlotte made it to FATS around 12:30 on Sunday and the runners had already been at it for nearly 5 hours. We came across quite a few of them on the trail and everyone was very cordial. I don't know how they ran 40 miles out there but they seemed to be enjoying it. We rode Skinny and Great Wall and those trails were in pretty good shape - only a few muddy spots here and there. Hickory Knob was another story - not because of mud but because of trees down on the Lakeview and Turkey Ridge loops - we moved a few off the trail but several others will take a chainsaw. We enjoyed our ride out there and hope to return soon. We had a mechanical issue Sat. while riding Hickory Knob none of us could fix so in the car we went to Chain Reaction in Martinez - the closest bike shop I knew of. My parents live in Evans so I have been in the shop a few times and they have always been nice and they did not disappoint us this time. We were riding FATS the next day so there was no way we weren't going to try and get this fixed. They took the bike right away and fixed the problem with the rear brake (something hit it and a spring came loose so it wouldn't turn). I didn't catch the young man's name who fixed it but it was very nice and even replaced some worn out brake pads. We started talking with Phil about the new trails at FATS and he printed out a map for us. It's always nice to go into a shop and receive wonder customer service like we did at Chain Reaction - thanks guys! We'll have to check out the Long Cane trails next time - we did take a ride through Abbeville and noticed everything was named "Long Cane" but weren't sure were the trails were. I can't wait to ride Big Rock and Tower on my Thanksgiving visit - let's hope it doesn't rain too much between now and then. Thanks, Melissa

So I know the area got some rain the other day - do you think FATS will be open for riding on Sunday?
We are coming in from Charlotte and staying at Hickory Knob State Park and don't want to miss the chance to ride FATS.
Thanks!
