There will be 12 of us from Charlotte coming down to ride Sunday morning - has anyone been out on the trails to say how they are holding up? Since they are open now I assume everything is good.

Hey all - just wanted to let you know there will be a large group of us from Charlotte coming to ride FATS next Saturday. I believe this is the 4th year the Dirt Divas have made this pilgrimage. If anyone wants to join us please feel free. We hope to be in the parking lot at 10am and ready to ride by 10:30. I've looked at the weather forecast and right now it's not too promising with chances of rain Thursday and Friday so I'll keep an eye on the website for any trail closures (and keeping my fingers crossed there won't be any ). We love your trails!! Thanks, Melissa

Hello again! It's time for the Dirt Divas from Charlotte, NC to return for their annual trip to FATS. We will be riding on Sat. Sept. 15 at approx. 10-10:30
We usually have a pretty good turnout for this day trip with riders of all levels and both guys and gals.
If possible it would be great if there were any locals out there who would like to volunteer to lead our beginner and intermediate riders around the trails. I know I can supply them with a map and let them go on their merry way but having someone who knows the trails with them is always nice.
Let me know if anyone is interested. Or feel free just to come ride with us that day.
Thanks, Melissa

Just got back from a pre-turkey day feast ride at keg creek and it was a lot of fun. Lots of leaves on the trail made it a little hard to see the trail at times but all in all it was a fun trail, my first time riding it. It was also very single speed friendly, barely any elevation at all.

"Big Rock and Tower are both good ccw. " Oops - i missed that last part of your post - that answers my question.

True, but still nice to have a local or two who know the trails well.
Thanks for that link - it makes it a little more clear now.
I was reading in other posts that it seems most everyone prefers Big Rock CCW and Tower CW - would that be the best way for us to ride?

The Dirt Divas will head to FATS again on Sat. June 11 (planning to be at trail head at 9:30 for 10:00 ride time). I can't tell you how many people just love it each time we come down for a visit - the trails are all they can talk about. Some have even gone back down with others. If any of you locals would like to join us please do so. I'm hoping our advanced group can get over to Big Rock and Tower this time. I have yet to ride those sections myself so any help on getting over there would be appreciated. We will also have a beginner and an intermediate group of women riders if anyone wants to join them and lead them around the trails. See you June 11th! Melissa And this time I'm not going to let any trees jump out in front of me and break my wrist.

Hello from Charlotte again!
The Dirt Divas are planning their 2011 ride calendar and we will be making another trek to FATS this year (they all love it!!). But unfortunately we have a conflict with the first date of 9/10 so i'm thinking of moving it to Oct. (nobody wants to ride in the heat of the summer) but i know FATS closes on a few saturdays in Oct. due to hunting season. Can anyone tell me what those dates will be in 2011 so we can plan our trip?
Thanks, Melissa

What is the SMC? I do something called the labor day trail crawl (it will be the 4th one this year) where we ride 5-6 local trails in one day, approx. 50 miles. Ours aren't all connected though so we have to get in the car and drive to each one. I'm not too happy about it but hopefully it will go by fast and my skills won't suffer too much. I plan to continue my gym workouts so that should help.

Everyone else loved the trails and I think they might even go back on their own some day. Got a cast put on yesterday and I'll be out 4-6 weeks which really sucks because I was planning to come down for the Explore the Trails ride at Modoc on 8/8. Neal - hope you are feeling better.

Neal - what happened to you? Lot's of cars in the parking lot when we arrived, but a ghost town around 1ish. Weather was perfect being overcast and not too terribly hot. Was able to get in Great Wall - CW, which I now prefer. Headed CCW on skinny, took out a tree off the boards right before the BW connector and broke my wrist...so the day was cut a little short. Thanks for all the advice on directions. Melissa

I didn't print out a map before i left home - is there a link to a decent FATS map someone can point me too. I know there are signs but our group likes to see where they are going.

I believe there was some rain in the FATS area last night - anyone have a report? The status hasn't been changed on the front page.
Thanks!

We are still coming on Saturday even though it will be blazing hot.
Any other takers to lead a group around the trails? I have 3 beginner/intermediate women riders (2 who came with us last year) who I'd like to get a leader for - even though i know it's hard to get lost out there I'd like them to have someone who knows the trails.
Thanks, Melissa

Hello again! The Dirt Divas from Charlotte will be making a return trip to FATS on Sat. July 10th. We hope to begin riding by 10am. We usually have a nice size group of both men and women with varying skill levels. If anyone would like to ride with us and show us the trails we would welcome you with open arms. I would really appreciate someone who could show our beginner group around the trails. They will probably only do two of the loops at the most and they are a fun group. Of course this is all weather permitting so I will keep checking the trail status as the date gets closer. Thanks, Melissa

Ok, i know where i'm going now. We actually rode Bartram last fall and took it as far as the trail would go - which i guess is now the new connector trail to Keg Creek. Hopefully i will get to ride Modoc some time soon too. We have another Dirt Diva group coming down from Charlotte on Sat. July 10th (yes, i know it will be blazing hot ) if anyone wants to help with leading some groups.

Ok, we are in for the Bartram ride at 9:00. Might not do 30 miles but we'll see how we feel.
Now just direct me to the correct meeting place and I'm good. We will be coming from Evans - just off Washington Rd.

My riding partner would likely kill me if I took her on a 40 mile ride saturday. What type of trail is Bartram? Flat? Hilly? Rolling? Technical?
