I was a little bit bored today so I went to the Canal Trail with my chainsaw and clippers. The trail was in a lot better shape than I had imagined. I thought for sure there would be lots of trees and limbs down after the wind we had the other night. I removed the tree we found down on the Wednesday night ride and the tree and the south end of the trail that has been getting lower and lower finally got low enough that it was hard to ride under so I took it out also. The root where you drop in to go down by the river had become exposed so I went ahead and cut it, I also did some clipping and lopping along the trail. I took out the limb and clutter on razors edge. It is now rideable but, it really needs trimming. I also cleaned a lot of debrie off the steps at the trail head. The only thing I didn't tackle today was the muddy spot that will not drain and some of the sandy spots. We will take care of that during the work party on the 13th of January.

Ditto what dsquaredmsquared said. Both trails were in great shape which made the ride that much more enjoyable. Thanks to who ever did the work.

Thanks everybody for the kind words. And that's a true store from Seenvic, Julie and I were whipped puppies that day. We had bit off a lot more than we could chew. I'm glad we didn't give up mountain biking that day. It keeps me in pretty good shape and I gained many new friends that I have enjoyed riding many miles with.

I slipped out to the trail yesterday and removed the large tree that a fallen across the trail. I also removed the tree hanging above the trail entrance by the pump house. While I was there I also removed some of the face slappers. Water is still draining across the trail in that same spot.

I rode Keg on Sunday. The trail was in really good shape considering all the rain we had. There was a large poison ivy vine hanging in the trail near the 18.5 mile marker (I left it alone because I didn't have my haze-mat suit with me), there was a tree down just past that going CW. There was a small mess between the 1st creek crossing and the rock bridge. I was able to cut out the small stuff with a hand saw but, I had to leave one tree that can be ridden under. The rest of the trail was pretty clear. A lot of small limbs and twigs on the trail.

I cut out a large limb near the big gully, I got the leaner at the top of the steps at the trail head, I did some lopping and weed eating. I'm still waiting on the widow maker to settle some more before I can cut it out. Thanks to some guy that cleaned up all the trash by the rope swing.

I cut out the tree across the trail near the rope swing and trimmed the limb that was next to the trail. I will have to let the widow maker settle a little lower before I can cut it out. I was not able to get to the trailhead to get the leaner because of the weather. Will have to get later.

One tree down, one large limb hanging next to trail, a few face slappers, and one widow maker. I should be able to get everything except the widow maker Monday after work. The widow maker is at least 10 high over the trail and will have to wait until it falls before I can get it out.

I removed the large tree yesterday after work. All we have to do now is repair all the holes and washes Sunday morning during the work party starting at 9:00. Bring your tools and help out.

After all the rain we had the trail is in pretty rough condition. It's drying out nicely but is has some holes and washed out areas that need filling in. Also, a lot of roots have been exposed. For the work party we will need shovels, a pick/grubbing hoe and a wheelbarrow. There is also a large tree down on the south end of the trail. I will try to take the tree out this weekend. Drew Jordan is putting together a work party this weekend. Check back on the forum for time. We need to get the trail ready for the 4th race of the Canal Crown Time Trial that will be held on Tuesday the 19th of June weather permitting.

There is a really big tree down on the south end of the trail. I will try to take it out this weekend during the work party. If someone has a big chainsaw and you would like to help please post it here. For the rest of the work party shovels, a pick/grubbing hoe and a wheelbarrow will be needed.

By the time Julie and I got there, someone had removed the tree pieces from the trail. Thanks
Julie and I trimmed the large piece of log away from the edge of the trail, lopped a few branches, and removed the tree hanging over the trail just past the 2-way going CW. I was told I almost hit it during the 1st time trial.
If we don't get any more rain, the trail should be good to go for the Wednesday ride and the time trials on Friday.
