Rode Mistletoe Friday, 3/21; the trail is in pretty good shape- a few trees down, but not bad. You will get your feet wet! Still a fun trail!

Rode Mistletoe Saturday, 11/18; the trail is clean. You need to ride this trail while it is dry. There are challenging features going either direction, counter clockwise is easier, I think. Ride it twice so you can ride the features that you walked the first time and then realized you can make it!

Rode Mistletoe Sunday, 9/9; forgot what a nice trail this is. The trail looks like it is used regularly. The main trail has some trees down- one section has 5 within 30 yards. I will call the park manager to ask about getting them cleared or if volunteers can help. The trail has some fun stuff, like the ravine and the rock dam, as well as more challenging creek banks. However, the trails are not overgrown at all. Even the trails into the camping areas have some nice scenery and one has a very challenging hill. For your $3 parking fee you get an indoor potty and a nice color map.

I rode KC Monday 3/17- it is in good condition, there are 3 trees down, all riders (really). The first stream crossing that used to be easy is now washed out and will require a drop-in. The second stream crossing that has always been tricky is the same as it was.

I rode Baker Creek this morning (11/11/07)- the trees were very colorful. Now is a good time to ride that trail. It is actually in pretty good shape, only a few areas that need to be lopped. Every inch is rideable (I like the trail clockwise). A fair amount of leaves down have helped the trail, I think.

I rode Sunday, 8/19- the lake loop is in good condition, very dry! They must not have gotten Friday's rain storm. It could use lopping, but not too bad. The short loop across the street has 3 trees down- 2 have a ride-around made already. All 3 trees are fairly near the road. If only I had a chainsaw........

Rode Turkey today, 11/18; past the whoops is a mess. Trees down at 1.3, 1.4, 1.9, 2.6. Past the rest stop- 4.8, 4.9, 5.0, 5.1, then I turned around. There is a rider at 2.1- tough going uphill, not too bad downhill. Trees listed are not riders. Most of the riders are actually just hoppers. Needs mowing past the rest stop also. I have a chainsaw- just need somebody certified. Email me and we'll set a date to clean. I'll be out of town over Thanksgiving.

rode last night, 8/9/07- trees down at 2.2 and 2.6 miles in; the rest are riders. Only went as far as the 5 mile rest stop. Only a few places that need mowing. Spiders were not too bad- either the weather or the controlled burn helped.....

Rode Modoc Sunday, 3/23; I was surprised how many muddy spots were still left but the trees are starting to bud out and should be soaking up water soon. No trees down.

Marco and I rode it several weeks ago and it was still in great shape.

I rode Modoc today, Saturday, 9/29, about noon. There was only one non-rider tree at about 2.6 mile and I cut that out with my handsaw. The bridge at 4 miles is a little tricky going out. There is a low-hanging tree right at .5 mile that I can just get under. There is a big leaning tree at 5+ mile that I cannot get by. Everything else is in good shape.

I worked Saturday and Banks Mumford and I worked last night to finish cleaning Modoc. The hedge-trimmer is not very effective on the grassy areas, but is good on the high/steep bank areas. Sorry for the cut branches left in the trail. I think Modoc has had more attention this last month than in the last several years. I would like to see better markings from the end of the trail to the Forest Service Road, for safety reasons (like the "A" sign now), but that is another project. Now we just need to get the word out to ride this great trail!!

I agree with your 'about me" statement, but then we reduce the trail to the lowest level- every time someone makes a ride-around then we have to remove the (fun) obstacle?? As for "obvious others can ride"- we're back to the cutting trees issue- do we leave it if 1 out of 100 or 1 out of 10 can ride it? This particular spot is flat, so no erosion, etc concerns. I'd like to have a place where we have more "tricks" or obstacles, maybe on a side trail, so there is an alternative for those that don't want to try it. For this trail and this spot, I don't see a problem. Maybe I'm just looking for a compromise so we don't cut all the "big trees" that lay "properly" across the trail.

Last night, 8/23, Modoc was in reasonably good shape; the last 2 miles need to be trimmed. There is a big rider tree down at about 4.8 miles that should be left; a ride-around is available. One tree needs to be cut at about 5.2 miles (a "leaner"). The small bridge at about 1.7 miles is collapsed and the bridge at about 4.5 miles has a broken board next to the near bank- probably done by the search-and-rescue 4-wheelers last Sunday. Thanks to Jimmy, Lowell, and Marco for the great work recently (hope I didn't leave anybody out).

The tree is about 12" and about 3' off the ground- hung up in some other trees. Otherwise it would be a rider. It's not far past the first climb. I figured it was new since you guys cut the trees in the first couple miles. The trail ends at 5.6 miles, I think. When I moved here in 2000, the trail died in a recent clear cut, and I have never followed the white (I think) blazes.

I rode Sunday morning 8/12-- the trail is as dry as I have ever seen it. ALERT- the 4 mile bridge is twisted on the near side and unless very dry will be very slippery and you will go in the big creek bed!! Trees down at 0.7, 3.5, 3.7, 3.9, 4.0, 4.2 miles and the leaner at 5.5 miles. Overgrowth not too bad. Jimmy, Marco's et al work so far is very nice.

The gate at Blankets does prevent access to the parking lot- just enough room to get your car out of the roadway as I recall. That's why the gate is so effective....
For quivers' original question- my experience is that there are fewer people in the morning. But I have seen the parking lot full and then come across only 1 person on the trails.

D*mn!! FATS is already too popular- it's hard to get anybody to ride the other trails. Now, for sure, nobody will ride anywhere else........
