It's a go. You, me, Dustin and Tom A are on the committee to make it work. It's all up to us!
I've told Brado1 via an email exchange we had last week.
Not sure this is the Greenville crowd, but it's the best I got.

The full loop or a shuttle from Modoc back to Lick Fork? Start time? A little later would be good to give people some drive time and to let it warm up a bit. And if we're shuttling vehicles to the finish prior to the ride we'll need some time as well.

If we're doing the shuttle....think we could all park at the finish, then shuttle everyone to the start?
That way once you're done, you're at your car. And, the shuttles would only need to run once.

I think the plan is to meet at the start (Lick Fork). Leave all bikes and supplies needed to be carried on the ride at the start.
One driver per car - drives the cars needed at the finish (Modoc). Riders should send clothes/drinks/food with these cars. Clearly mark whether the stuff needs to be at the finish line or at the rest stops.
This is the part in which we need a small staff to get done timely. Someone on the staff leaves a little earlier and delivers all the food to the rest stops. Then swings around to Modoc to help shuttle the riders back to the start. Others on the staff simply drive straight to Modoc (or perhaps just drives directly to Modoc from home and waits, depends on who this is.) We need several large vehicles that can carry many riders. Chain Reaction's van comes to mind - need to ask Phil about that. My car can carry 4-5 passengers from Modoc back to Lick Fork. Perhaps we have some members with 3 rows of seating SUV's that would be willing to simply shuttle riders from Modoc to Lick Fork. It is only about a 12 mile drive from Modoc to Lick Fork.
What you think of this plan???

What you think of this plan??? Works for me. Sunset is at 6pm on Jan 27. If the ride started at 10, that would give 8hrs to complete it and also enough time to organize and shuttle prior to the start. Hyperflea, read seenvic's post above again. We're talking about shuttling PEOPLE, not bikes.

Wooglin is correct. The plan is to move only people, and food/supplies, but not bikes. We have done it this way so we don't have to move bikes.
How is this for a plan. Meet at Lick Fork at 9AM to meet the food and people shuttles. Food shuttle leaves at 9:15AM People shuttles leave at 9:30AM. Hopefully all shuttles will be back to Lick Fork at 10AM Be ready to ride at 10AM.
I don't ride that fast relative to the crowd that does these types of rides. The last time I did the full Dark Star, it took 7 hours total time, I think. I am not sure what the ride time was.
I think this is a decent plan. It is not a race, so anyone that wants to start early can start as soon as their group is in tact and their food has been sent off.
We'll collect the donations when we collect the food, shuttle riders and hand out the maps.

I'm probably missing something...but...why are we not shuttling bikes if everyone is meeting at Lick Fork, but the ride ends at Modoc? How are the bikes getting back to Lick Fork w/their owners?

Argh! You drive from your house to Lick Fork. You unload your bike. You get in your car and drive to Modoc. You park there. Someone drives you back to Lick Fork. You get on your bike. You ride to your car. You go home.

We could probably nail this down a lot easier over the phone, but this is more fun.

Unload your food/supplies and give them to the food shuttle driver. The food leaves Lick Fork at 9:15 and gets dropped in 1 or 2 places (not yet decided if 1 or 2 drops). Leave your bike at LF. SOME riders, but NOT ALL, then drive cars to Modoc, leaving LF at 9:30. Get to Modoc, and leave the cars there. Then we cramp as many riders back into larger shuttle vehicles and drive back to LF. Get on your bike at 10AM and ride to Modoc. Get to your car and go home.....or drive to LF if you have to take someone back there for some reason.

Ooooohhh. It all makes perfect sense now! lol. I could probably run the food drop, as long as I know exactly where I'm droping it.

Actually, I am counting on 3 people to really help with this. And you and Wooglin are 2 of them. There are some others, and they don't even know it yet!

rode horn creek last night, only 1 non-rider tree down, less than two miles in going ccw. Small tree (~6" diameter), but it's about 2' off the ground. Could be cut out w/a hand saw...didn't have mine w/me last night. So...if anyone's going to ride it anytime soon, take a little saw with you. I got mine (small folding saw) at harbor freight for about $7 and it works great, and it can easily be stashed in a hydration pack.

Any more details yet? My brother is threatening to come down from Charlottesville VA for the ride and possibly bringing some friends, but need some lead time to plan... I am still in, BTW I say we commit to the plan in post #30 above. Sunday, Jan 27. Ready to ride at 10AM. One drop, at Key Bridge, leaving Lick Fork at 9:15. Shuttles from MODOC back to Lick Fork for the start leave at 9:30.

The ride has been shortened to 50ish miles. A point to point with a car shuttle before the ride starts.
Meet at Lick Fork before 9AM, Jan 27. Unload your bike, and leave it at Lick Fork. Unload your food/drinks into the food car. There will be one food drop. At 9:15AM, the food car leaves with the food you brought. We don't supply any food. At 9:30AM, a caravan of cars will leave Lick Fork and drive to Modoc. It's only about 10-12 miles away. One person per car. Park the cars at Modoc, and we will shuttle you back to Lick Fork.
The ride should be alot of fun on some old trails and raise a little money for some new trails. The ride is free, but we'd like a minimum $25 donation to be used towards the FATS Phase Three Grant matching. Those who donate will receive a nice map, the shuttle ride and food drop of the food/drinks you bring. The course will be marked and is 24 miles singletrack, 11 miles paved and 15 miles gravel. The route covers Horn Creek, Wine Creek, Turkey Creek and Modoc.
I'd like to see about 20 peope do this. That will be manageable. From the word I am getting, there are already 20 people interested. If you are in, let me know via this thread. I am curious how many people are in for this. We can handle more, but need to be prepared - so please let us know if you plan to ride.
We need some volunteer shuttle drivers. It's easy. Just show up at Modoc at about 9:30ish and wait for the cars to show up from Lick Fork. Then load your car w/ riders and drive to Lick Fork. And that's all you do. Let us know if you can ride, shuttle drive, or both.
