Heavy rain from thunderstorms early last night and again early this morning. Looks like we might get a break today. Heavy, fast rain typically causes more erosion but less soggy trails due to quick run off. Give FATS a chance to dry out, stick to the outlying trails today.
We will give an update later today (hoping things dry enough we can conduct the Brown Wave Work Party (and we do still need volunteers email us at sorba.csra@gmail.com if you can help)!

FATS was already soggy in the dips before more thunderstorms popped up Sunday afternoon. The trails need time to dry out and more rain is predicted. Please stick to the outlying trails.

It looks like drier days are ahead but for now everything is saturated (not just FATS). The rain just kept coming yesterday. We’ll report back on trail conditions but please give them time to dry out before using.

FATS trails need at least another 24 hours to dry out. There is water running down the trails plus many soft mucky areas in addition to the usual mucky spots. When trail conditions are like this please don’t use the trail. It looks like drier conditions are just ahead.
Fortunately most local trail users work to preserve the trails and stay off them when they are too wet. As a result the USFS doesn’t feel compelled to close them every time it rains, help us keep it that way.

We are canceling the work party on Great Wall set for Saturday the 29th and moving it to Saturday, September 12th. Great Wall is the longest of the FATS trails so we will need all the equipment to get the work done and one of our DR mowers is being repaired and won’t be ready in time.
If you already know you can help with September 12th please sign up by emailing us at sorba.csra@gmail.com

More rain yesterday afternoon, it appeared that most of the heavier rain stayed west of FATS but at the very least this additional rain delays the drying process. Will give updates later today. Please allow time for the trails to dry out before using them. Thank you

Update> FATS
Late day trail check revealed the trails are drying out nicely and should be good to go if we don’t get more rain.
Remember we are not talking about how well you might enjoy your time on the trail (there will be slippery and mucky areas) but rather are they okay to use. Also remember these thunderstorms are not your sprinkler system delivering a uniform amount of water so you might find some areas wetter than others.
With no additional rain the sun and higher temps are very helpful!

We need your help! If you can volunteer this Saturday (Sept 12th)please email us at sorba.csra@gmail.com as soon as possible.
We only have a handful of volunteers signed up and Great Wall is the longest FATS trail so we need to mobilize most of our equipment. If you cannot help please pass this information along! Thank you

Urgent!!! We still need 6 more volunteers to complete our teams for tomorrow’s work party. If we don’t have them the last mile and a half of Great Wall (if traveling CW) will not be worked. If you can’t come be sure and ask a friend if he/she can lend a hand!

Thank you!

Report in that FATS must have received a lot of rain sometime during the night. Please allow the trails at least 24 hours to dry out (after no additional rain)! Thank you!

FATS is under official temporary USFS closure. Please help protect this valuable resource and do not use the trails until they are reopened.
Our other local trails will also be saturated so please give them some time to dry out too!P

FATS is officially open! There are the usual mucky spots along the trail, those will continue to improve as the dry weather continues (for those who don’t like the muck).
Keep the singletrack single by staying on the trail through those mucky areas (or dismount and carry you bike over) or leap if a runner or hiker!
Many thanks to all trail users who respected the closure!

The FATS 50K XC Running Race will be held on the southern loops at FATS on Sunday, October 4th (Deep Step, Great Wall, Skinny and Brown Wave)! - There will be approximately 100 runners out on the trails beginning at 8am and ending in early afternoon
- As on all of our trails on public lands, bikers must yield to others so with that many runners out on the trail it might be advisable to check some of our other trails. Here is a complete list, all these trails are in great condition right now sorbacsra.org/Trails/Trails.htm
- If the FATS trails are what you want to ride, best to start with the northern trails first, Big Rock and Tower and then the southern loops later in the afternoon.
- There is a contest going on involving the Horn Creek Trail, Sunday might be the day to get your selfie at the Boy Scout Bridge with the sign in your photo. The sign reads Eagle Service Project, Troop 417, Martinez, GA July 1992 - send that selfie to sorba.csra@gmail.com to be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate from Andy Jordan's Bicycle Warehouse! Reach out to us if you have any questions!

Do not believe FATS received the inch of rain projected for this area during the night but there were several bands of Delta that came through. We will scout out the trail and report.

Between 6am and 10am on Nov 12th FATS received between 1 & 1.5 inches of rain. November has been relatively dry overall but the trails will need time to dry out, at least 24 hrs. Please do not use the trails at FATS until they have time to dry out. We will give an update tomorrow. Thank you!

As anticipated FATS did not get as much rain from Eta so trails are good to go!!
You might find some water in a few regular spots but otherwise trail tread is dry. Should be a great weekend for riding!
