We need you!
We only have 7 of the 15 volunteers needed for the Brown Wave Work Party scheduled for Saturday, June 24th
Since we began hitting all the local trails back in 2020 we have been able to count on our valuable experienced volunteers but have also had a great infusion of new volunteers as well. That is critical to continue expanding our volunteer base but also avoid burning out our experienced crew. We hope to continue that trend so if you haven’t come out to help before but use the trails, please come help by signing up for a work party!! Thank you!

(June 15/12:30pm) We currently only have one volunteer, other than the organizers, signed up for this work party…………can you help? If not can you help us advertise? It seems to be one of our most popular trails………..
Work Party #2 - FATS> Brown Wave Trail - Saturday, June 24th
This trail is slightly shorter than the Skinny Trail but we will still be using DR mowers, string trimmers and loppers to get the job done.
If you can’t volunteer for the work party please help us spread the word. We often have people tell us they would have volunteered if they had known about it!
Email us at sorba.csra@gmail.com to sign up!! Thank you!

Jun 15/8am) FATS Update>
System came through dropping nearly an inch of rain in the area of FATS. Fortunately most of it slid south. With no additional rain it will be 24 to 36 hours before the trails dry out.

(Jun 12/8am) FATS Update>
Picked up some additional rain in the early morning hours bringing the total rain accumulation to half an inch. It has been dry for a few days prior so trails should be okay to use this afternoon.
Again we don’t have rain gauges along the trails at FATS and with pop up and stray thunderstorms it can be difficult to pinpoint. Would appreciate feedback if much wetter trail conditions are ever observed> sorba.csra@gmail.com

Can you help on Saturday, June 10th? If so grab a buddy and sign up! If not please help spread the word!
This will be the 8th Annual Sherri West Memorial Work Party on the Skinny Trail at FATS. Email sorba.csra@gmail.com if you can help or have questions. Lunch will be provided after this work party!
Never participated in a work party before? No problem we do on-the-job training!
Sherri loved our local trails, was a great supporter of SORBAcsra and a solid trail advocate who signed up for nearly every regular work party!! Her son Miles has followed in her footsteps and also a member of SORBAcsra, part of the trail tread team, AND a USFS Certified Sawyer!
If you know you probably won’t make it out to any of the work parties over this summer join SORBAcsra for $39 and a portion of your dues will help support all the upcoming work parties!

(May 30th/9:30am) FATS Update>
Trail check yesterday indicated trails need a little more time to dry out from Saturday’s late rain. Anticipating trails will be good to go by tomorrow.
Please stay in the middle of the trail when encountering wet/mucky areas, some areas are becoming greenway width and that is hard to fix once vegetation has been killed back. Please help us keep the singletrack single!! Thank you.

Did you know? We are closing in quickly on the start of the 2023 foliage busting season (mid-June)! On average, it costs about $50 per large work party for non-ethanol fuel, oil, string for our trimmers, snacks and drinks for our volunteers, etc. We receive 40% of the $39 membership fee or $15.60.* So it takes 3+ memberships to pay for each work party or 50+ memberships to fund just the summer foliage blasting season. That doesn’t include any equipment maintenance, equipment replacement, equipment or tool purchases, events, matching funds for projects, etc. Can you become a member for $39 a year and financially help us maintain the trails you love to use? *60% of the membership fee goes to IMBA and SORBA to pay for membership processing, payroll processing, our SORBA Executive Director, SORBA Development Director, SORBA contract employees, insurnace, meetings/summits, etc, etc, etc to support nearly 50 SORBA chapters and nearly 10,000 members creating great riding opportunities in the south! Remember SORBAcsra is all volunteer, we need you!!! Membership link> www.imba.com/join/chapter/csra

(May 22nd/11:00am) FATS Update>
Early Sunday morning the inch plus of rain ended and we indicated without more the trails should dry out in a couple of days. That has been delayed by the lower temps, overcast skies and now additional rain lasting about 4 hours. This rain will not add much additional rain into the mix but it will delay the drying out process.
Stay tuned for updates. Please do not use the trails when they are wet. Help keep this great resource in good condition. Thank you!!

(May 12/11:30pm) FATS Update!
System moving across the CSRA brought a wide variance of rain, between .25 to over 4 inches. Rain is continuing south of I-20.
The gauges we use closest to FATS indicate just over a quarter of an inch of rain. If FATS did not get any heavier rainfall, trails should be good to go by noon tomorrow, Saturday, May 13th.
If you use the trails and it appears they did get much more rain, please give us a heads up at sorba.csra@gmail.com Thank you!

Saturday, June 3rd is National Trails Day! Come join us for a ride, run or hike with lunch after at the Petersburg Trailhead on the Bartram Trail! We are partnering with Columbia County Convention and Visitor Center for the ribbon cutting on the Bombasin Land Trail, don’t know what that is? Come find out!! There will be 3 guided opportunities to enjoy the Bartram trail with a guided hike, run and bike or feel free to explore on your own. Then join us for an awesome lunch between 11am and 1pm. Don’t forget to RSVP at this link so we have enough food for everyone! bit.ly/BombasinColumbia County is one of the fastest growing counties in Georgia. They are trying to maximize recreational opportunities for their residents which of course will benefit everyone in the CSRA. Let’s show up and give them some reasons to preserve some green space for outdoor recreational opportunities. Come out, join us, make sure Columbia County knows we are out here and eager for some “special” trail opportunities close in…….think pump tracks, jump lines, trails, etc that can be built on smaller pieces of land closer to the population center. Help us spread the word! visitcolumbiacountyga.com/bombasin/RSVP for lunch> bit.ly/BombasinHere are some pics from last year’s National Trails Day event! Come join us!!

(May2/4pm) FATS Update!
With all the wind over the past couple of days, and no elevated ground water to create seeps, the trails have dried out nicely.
There will still be some soft spots so please stay in the middle of the trail to keep the single track single!
Use caution when out on the trails with these erratic wind patterns. There are dead trees that just need a push to come down and plenty of hung-up trees that can fall in higher winds.

(Apr 30/12:30pm) FATS Update>
The system that rolled through the area starting yesterday and finally moving off dropped about an inch of rain. Trails will need about 48 hours to dry out. This should be surface drying which may get an assist from some predicted wind this afternoon.
