We will have a status board to keep track of how many laps everyone has completed.
Each team will have a column on the status board. When the rider completes a lap, the rider will be given a piece of paper with the time stamped on it. The rider is responsible for stapling the paper to the status board (we will have a stapler for everyone to use).

We do not have any pre-registration for the Baker’s Dozen. Registration will open at 8:00 am the morning of the event at Horn Creek trailhead and close at 9:59am. The event will start at 10:00 am.
Horn Creek trail is open 24/7. Night riding is acceptable.
The trail is in great condition. SORBA-CSRA just placed new decking boards and hardwire cloth on the long bridge in section 5. A work party is scheduled for March 20th to add hardwire cloth to all the bridges on Horn Creek.

You can find hotels in Augusta at the Washington Road exit. I think this is Exit 199. There is a Hampton Inn, Courtyard By Marriott, Holiday Inn, Springhill Suits, Amerisuits and Sleep Inn. This Exit is only 3 miles from Exit 1 in South Carolina where Highway 230 is located. Lick Fork Lake has 9 camp sites, however they are first come, first served. Cost is $7.00 per night, which includes water...not at each site, but at several locations throughout the campground... (no electricity). There are showers available at the day use area. Not every site has fire rings. Each site has a picnic table and some have pedestal grills. Each site is different size, but most people either use tents or "small" RV's (remember no electricity, but people can use generators from 7 am to 10 pm.). There are SST's for restroom facilities in campground and at trailhead and pit toilets in campground. Hamilton Branch State Park at Plum Branch SC also offers camping. They have 200 sites. I do not know the cost. Try looking at their web site www.southcarolinaparks.com. Hamilton Branch is about 12 miles from the Horn Creek Trail.

The course for the Baker's Dozen will start at the trailhead and travel down the campground gravel road. At the stopsign the course turns right onto the paved road. At the next stopsign, the course turns right onto a paved road. This road turns into gravel after 1/4 mile. The course enters Horn Creek Trail on the left after 1/2 mile. The course follows Horn Creek trail all the way back to the same gravel road where you entered the trail. The course then follows the same route back to the trailhead. This is 1 lap.
A lap is about 8 miles long, 6 is singletrack and 2 is gravel/paved. The only place where there will be tow-way traffic is on the gravel/paved roads.
When you enter Horn Creek trail (we call this section 2), you will be going slightly downhill over a lot of tree roots and some bridges. There is a little climbing. You will then cross a gravel road and enter a 1 mile climb ( we call this section 3). You will then cross another gravel road and enter a very fast section. It starts flat, then goes downhill, more flat area, bridges and then a little climbing (we call this section 4). You will then cross another gravel road. This section starts flat where you can get very fast, has bridges, a very sharp right turn on a climb that if you don't make the turn, you will fall into the creek. Then the course climbs for about 1 mile. During this climb, you will past the trailhead and end at the gravel road where you entered the first part of the trail (we call this section 5 up to the trailhead and section 1 from the trailhead to the gravel road).

From Atlanta, take I-20 East to Augusta. Directions to Lick Fork Recreation Area, Horn Creek Trail from Augusta GA. Take I-20 East into South Carolina. Exit at Exit 1 and go North on highway 230 towards Edgefield. After traveling about 30 minutes, you will see the sign for Lick Fork Recreation Area on your right. Follow the signs to the trailhead located at the end of the campground. You have gone to far if you reach the junction of highway 230 & 23 (about 1 mile north of the park entrance).

All participants are required to have the following safety equipment: · CPCS, ANSI or ASTM certified bicycle helmet · Minimum 10 watt bicycle design light that is operable · Light mount that mounts either to bicycle handlebars or to a certified bicycle helmet · Water or sports drink

SORBA-CSRA is thinking about sponsoring a time trail series this Spring. This is only in the initial planning stages. We are doing this to have more mountain bike events in the area. Because there are a lot of local people training for the Baker’s Dozen, we could have the time trail series in March. We could have different categories, give prizes to the lower categories and cash to the upper categories………or give cash to all categories. We could charge somewhere around $5 or $10 per rider and payback 90% to the top 3 or 4 places. We are thinking about using the Canal Singletrack for the first event. If we get a good turnout & everybody has fun, then we could have another series at another trail. What I want to know is what do you think? What kind of format do you want? Do you want prizes or cash? How much do you want to pay? Run the series for 1 day, 1 lap or over 2 days for fastest lap each day. What do you want?
