Check out the SORBA CSRA homepage. On the left is a "Trails" button that will link to most all trails in the area. For now your best bet would be to ride Lick Fork, Bartram, Hickory Knob, Keg Creek, or Baker Creek. They are all in pretty good condition from what I've heard.

Not much local singletrack w/ longer climbs than FATS. The gravel roads around the FATS offer some long climbs, without the humps. But it's not singletrack.
A good route at FATS is down the singletrack and up the gravel road that cuts thru the loops. If you do all the loops this way, it's a 33 mile ride. Most of the climbing is gravel or pavement and you still ride all the singletrack at FATS.
Closest long singletrack climbing is probably the Long Cane Horse Trail around Greenwood.

how is mistletoe and lick fork compare to fats It's been a long time since I've been to Mistletoe. Off the cuff, I don't recall any big climbs. LF is going to be about like the Skinny Loop at FATS, without the humps, but alot more roots. If riding CW at Lick Fork, there is a nice 1 mile (mostly a) climb in "section 3". In the CW direction, the section 5/section 1 combo makes for a good climb. If parking in the parking lot, this climb is broken up by starting and finishing in the lot. In other words, to make the most of the section 5 into section 1 climb, you have to be willing to ride up section1 and back down (if you parked in the parking lot). Lick Fork CCW, the climbs are in section 4 and section 2. Section 2's is almost more a never ending false flat with a lot of roots. Section 4 is a nice climb, but not as long as the section 3 CW climb. The bottom line is we live at 500' above sea level. This isn't California, where the mtns meet the sea and you can climb from sea level up to a 3,000 foot tall mtn. It is going to be difficult to find "big climbs" around here. The best I have found are on the gravel roads in the FATS vacinity. The northern end of the district, the Long Cane Horse Trail, will have some longer climbs. I have a route in the FATS vacinity that goes for 25 miles, climbs 2,000' and uses none of the trails in the FATS proper. If you want to turn the corner and ride up for 30-45 minutes at a good pace, you'll have to drive to western NC. In Pisgah NF, there are alot of good climbs. But I have found the best riding in Pisgah is up gravel roads and down the singletrack.

I rode Fats this morning. This was my first time out there. What an awesome place! I rode Deep Step CW , had a few steep places...but then again I am out of shape! But I am definitely hooked! IM going back on Thursday or Friday depending on how much rain we get.

Almost forgot, Keg Creek, I'm not real sure it's been a long time. The Bartrum trail, between Petersburg and West Dam park is a good fast trail that you can ride easy if you want to. Either way it's worth checking out, you won't be disappointed. that'S my two cents worth.

Flat compared to FATS. Modoc may be what you are looking for. A few steepies, but most are short.

Modoc may be what you are looking for. A few steepies, but most are short. Lol. When I first read that my initial reaction was that they seemed pretty long to me, but then I realized I've never actually ridden Modoc without coming over from Turkey Creek.

Mistletoe is a very nice trail but only minor climbs; the creek crossings can be tricky. It has one great ravine section that is unique for the area. It is not ridden much. Keg Creek has only a few hills but has some fun technical parts, again usually at creek crossings- don't ride the big flat rocks if they are wet!! Keg Creek goes around a section of the lake, so it is considered flat, I think. I used to think Modoc was the ultimate test of my fitness (on hills), until Bill built the Deepstep loop. Modoc is the most technical trail we have around here. Don't forget Baker Creek State Park- that has some good hills. I think each trail has enough to keep you honest, but consider the source- I am pretty old and slow.
