www.cnn.com/2006/WEATHER/09/13/weather.nino.reut/index.htmlThis is not good. Last time we had a bad El Nino winter, all the trails were under water for months. 1998 was the year. The upside was we discovered how to ride the maze of gravel roads in the forest. And the result was the Long Cane Massacre Ride in 1999. Still though, an El Nino winter will mean wet trails for months on end. The water table fills up, the trees become dormant in the winter and the rain stays in the soil for a long time. This happens about every winter, but El Nino brought so much in 1998, we couldn't ride local singletrack for months.

Could be worse. In Peru El Nino causes major economic hardship to millions every time it hits. Did you know our State Meteorologist is one of the world's leading experts on El Nino?
