Looking at the weather...I'm thinking Canal Trail on Weds. @ 5:30, and a "real" trail on Thurs. FATS if it's open, or if FATS is closed, how about Keg Creek?

I'm up for the Canal on Wednesday, only if you admit it's a real trail.

I'm up for the Canal on Wednesday, only if you admit it's a real trail. lol, it's actually one of my favorite trails in the area, because I can ride to it from work, and it's got some pretty challenging climbs, and the gully is fun too. My only complaint is it's too short. See yall at 5:30; I'll be wearing camo shorts and grey/red fox jersey. --Dustin

Yeah, it's short. We had a mountain bike race there around 1996 or 1997 or so and the expert class had to do about 9 laps. I have a 4 lap max with any minimum possible. I should be there. Not sure what I'll wear. Maybe my old Chain Reaction Blue/White/Pink skin suit. Probably not though.

Got another friend interested in riding the Canal Weds, so the time is getting pushed back a little, probably about 6:00 now....I'm gonna meet him at the headgates about a quarter till six, then we'll head down to the pump station. Where does everyone else want to meet? Head gates or pump station?

I'll be out there a few times this week but we can't get out until around 6:30 (work until 6). I don't think I'll be riding tomorrow but I should be there today, then Thurs and Fri if the weather stays nice.

do you guys ever do any night rides at FATS? I love riding at night, but don't prefer to ride by myself. i do turn my best laps at night, on account of the wolfman chasing me all the time. rode FATS yesterday, did 3 laps on deep step. only moist sand at one spot. others had been before me and left evidence. i stuck to deep step because there were a couple older gentleman on some junk that looked to be "suspect". i did not want to turn a corner and stumble upon a party that i did not want an invite to.

I like night riding! I'm not as fast descending at night, due to fear of deer and other wildlife running out in front of me (I've had several close calls), but I'm just as fast or faster on the climbs. Let me know if you want to ride...I'm free most evenings during the week, but weekends I'm usually busy.

Please expand on this. Are you saying it looked like three guys wacked out on meth or something of that sort? Or are you saying three guys on junkie bikes? If you are saying 3 guys on meth (or some other drug), can you desribe them or their car? Having meth heads at FATS will lead to cars being broken into. This is the main reason the parking lot is right on the road and not tucked back in the woods. We did think about this when we laid out the parking lot. To tell the truth, I have been surprised there have not been any breakins reported at the FATS parking lot. oh, and I like night riding. I just gotta get a new HID bulb as mine is broken.

sorry for the confusion. it was the bikes that were junk, they looked to be one step from wal-mart. i meant they were suspect of being sweet. if they were smoking anything it definitely was not meth. LOL i am sure nothing was out of the ordinary, but something seemed weird about the pair out mountain biking together. this coupled with my desiire to be left alone, i just steered clear. just to be safe there was no toe tapping while i went to the bathroom. (politicians always do wonders for comedy)

i did not want to turn a corner and stumble upon a party that i did not want an invite to. HAHA, that takes on a whole new meaning now! Deep Step is in good shape except for a few places. Nice and dry, and no mud. Two non rider trees down (both too big for me to cut out w/my little hand saw). And you know that big long steep climb around 4.2ish miles? The descent after that is kinda sketchy; one of the dips has some erosion, and one has a few big (15" diameter) rocks laying right beside the trail. They don't seem to be serving any purpose, they're not armoring, and they look like they're right where someone's head would land if they took a trip over the bars. I'm going to move them next time I'm out there....should of done it today... The last power lines crossing is sketch too, more loose rocks laying around. I'll get them too next time. All of the new armoring is great. There's also a few places that have recently been worked on, they're nice too, thanks to who ever did it!

The second tree, where there are two trees together about headset high, needs to be cut out. And I think those rocks were put there to keep people from wandering. Not sure if they are the same ones or not, but it sounds like it. That whole area needs some work. We have a ton of brick nearby, we just gotta get it over there. That was one of the wetter areas this winter. Lots of seepage from the backslope.

The rocks help to "encourage" a better line.

I am probablly going to ride deep step and wall tomorrow (tuesday) from 6:30-8:00. Let me know if you want to join. I would prefer to ride modoc, but can't get there until 6:45 at the earliest, so probablly only able to go out 4.5-5 and back (9-10 total) before dark. I don't have the light set-up yet
