Hey everyone, Just wanted to fill y'all in on a team I'm on and hopefully some kind folks can spread the word and donate to JDRF to help us find a cure for diabetes. As some may know I am a type 1 diabetic. Well I am now on an 8 person team of all T1 diabetics. We are racing in RAAM this June and have a few goals we want to accomplish: 1. Raise $1 million for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation so we can find a cure 2. Help type 1 and type 2 diabetics across the globe understand that they can do anything non-diabetics can do if they manage their disease and work hard. 3. We are planning on breaking the 8 person record of 19.9 mph average and hopefully finish in less than 6 days in RAAM (Race Across America) I know this has nothing to do with mountain biking but several teammates and myself are avid mtbers at heart. The website is still somewhat under construction and we will be selling t-shirts and armbands to help raise the money for JDRF. be good, Troy Team Type 1 "riding for a cure" www.teamtype1.org

Thanks Gene! That's awesome, we really appreciate it and that's exactly what we're trying to do to spread the word. Yes, I'll see you at the BD, managed to grab a friend's solo spot since he cannot race. Will certainly help me finish up my base hours so I can begin the inensity workouts in a couple of weeks. Safe travels to you Kentucky boys! Troy

Wristbands are now available, please see the link below. All proceeds go towards our $1 million to help JDRF find a cure for diabetes! Anyone interested in a jersey please let me know. Jerseys are made by Hincapie and are $60, again all profits will help us raise the $1 million for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (jdrf). Here are links to what our jerseys look like. We should have t-shirts real soon as well. You can get the wristband link from our website or go directly to this site: bandsonhand.com/proddetail.php?prod=05051 thanks for the support, Troy Team Type 1 www.teamtype1.orgRacing for a cure

stats.raceacrossamerica.org/2006/reports/TS/57.htmlFrom what i can gather, Team Type 1 is finished with RAAM in second place to a team of 4 professional cyclists out of Colorado. It's been fun following the neck and neck race between the two since somewhere in Kansas. 8 diabetics chasing 4 pros....interesting to see. Good job Troy. What a way to see the country.

Thanks for keeping up with our progress and your kind words y'all! As the Dead said, "what a long strange trip it's been." It surely was and i have stories that'll last a lifetime.
We managed to win 1st in the 8 person corporate division with a total time of 5 days, 16 hours, and 4 minutes. our average speed was 22.36 mph which crushed the record of 19.84 by a long shot.
This was the toughest bike race i've ever raced and I made some great frienships with so many special people. Never before have i ridden with any other riders with type 1 diabetes and we learned so much from one another.
The Vail-Beaver Creek 4 person team that finished 3 minutes ahead of us were top notch guys. They wanted to parade into Atlantic City with us and we chatted the whole way. They are all professional mountain bikers and got a kick out of me telling them we were all professional diabetics. We played leapfrog with those guys for nearly 1/2 of the race and they are so strong, even cheered us on whenever we passed them.
I'm ready to get on the dirt and see how this "training" has helped out my MTB skills! I must say there was a time I was cruising through Monument Valley around 40 mph in the flats with a tremendous tailwind and I then used my downhill skills to descend up to speeds of 55+mph on a time trial bike. Hope to see y'all soon!

Good Work Mr. Willard, Your hard work and ability to harness your ADD to benefit your team as well as millions of tiny tots with Diabetes is a testament to you and those who support you. Now, it's our turn turn help you regain the "Soul" that you sweat out on the roadways of our paved country. We will stop at nothing to make sure that you re-absorb the dirt that is severely missing from your body. Congratulations

The dirt is curdling in my blood Ted! So many times I'd glance over in a tucked aero position (of course) to see some mysterious one track weaving so elegantly in the desert of Arizona, Rocky Mountains of Colorado, and steep pitches of West Virginia. Actually made me crank down harder just knowing I was racing to some of the great singletrack we have in our area. Thanks again for everyones steady support and positive energy, truly was felt during those tough sessions at 3 AM when I just had to dig a little deeper and suffer.

Your entire story and fairy tale ending gives me goose bumps. The last time I ran into you at FATS, you were looking like a killer! Lean and mean. Your dedication and training paid off, and you are an inspiration to us all. We all look forward to seeing you again on the dirt!
