How about we start a best time on the different FATS trails so we know how we measure up and give us new riders something to work toward My best time on Skinny is 47 minutes but like I said I am new to this. Great wall time is 58 min 27 sec.

I have found over the years that I make a good rabbitt for someone to catch. My refusal to train, or ride a road bike means I am about as fast as I am going to get within a few percentage points. I recall years ago riding w/ friends from Greenwood that I could drop at first, but they trained and over time started to drop me (and still do for the most part). So, all that said I hope I can provide you with some times to shoot for and surpass. I just rode all 4 loops Saturday in 2 hours and 27 minutes, total time. I don't have computer on my bike, just a stopwatch on my wrist (w/ and altimeter, of course). I stopped to move a wishbone shaped log off the Deep Step that I could move myself and I stopped to eat twice - none of the three stops were more than 2-3 minutes each. I rode them all CCW, going Deep Step, GW, Skinny-BW-Skinny. I looked down as I came off of the Deep Step Connector turning towards the GW and was at 33 min. I turned onto the Skinny at 1:15, so the Great Wall took me 42 min And I was back at the car in 2:27, so the Skinny-BW-Skinny took me 72 min. This was my fastest trip around all four loops, but only by a few minutes. I usually come in around 2 hrs 30 minutes and change, but this day I got under that mark and was pleased. I'd like to get it down to 2:15 then 2 hours flat....but I don't see that happening anytime soon. This isn't fast, BTW. Fast is Harlan Price doing the ORAMM in 4 hours and 54 minutes. His average speed in ORAMM was over 13MPH, while covering 63 miles and climbing 11,000 feet. I think I was going about 10.4 mph while climbing 1700 feet in 26 miles the other day. You'd be surprised at how fast some riders can go. I got smoked at last years time trials at FATS - speaking of which...... When are "they" going to do a TT series out there again?

"They" moved to Savannah. One of "those" who has an interest needs to step up, organize, and run a time trial series. That's what makes a club: many members with different interests contributing in different ways to the club.

BD, "They" is code for what you spelled out. There really is no "they" to me and you. We are the "they" that you hear about from folks that think there is a "they"....perhaps small green trail gnomes or something. Here are some examples I hear alot....
"they" did a good job mowing the stinging neddles and cutting the huge trees off this trail, yesterday. I rode FATS yesterday, but came here today because I heard "they" did all this work...
"they" built the FATS and I hear "they" are going to build more. Do you know when "they" are going to start.
Sorry to hijack this thread.

So would the "best time" be figured from a standing start?

I would be down for riding in some time trials! I'll help organize/run them also. It'd be a great fundraiser for the FATS expansion!!! Charge like $10, post everyone's time on the website, and see if we could get a local shop to donate some prizes for the winners.
I'd ride in them...I'm not that fast though...last time I rode with Bill he was on his single speed and we rode Skinny and Brown Wave and he dropped me. I could hang with him on the downhills, but not the uphills. I have gotten in better shape since then though, so I'm faster now...he'd still drop me, just not as easily.
My first and so far only ride on Deep Step took 35 minutes. I was completely exhausted when I was finished.
I've done Skinny and Brown Wave in an hour and 15 minutes.
Skinny and Great Wall in an hour and 30 minutes.
Seriously...we need to do a FATS time trial, make it an annual event, I think it'd be a great fundraiser, I'll help do it!

I know that "they" is code for what I spelled out. It was my attempt at a joke :=), and also being more specific about the Time Trial Series. In that case, Ray is the specific "they." What do I mean by that? Ray was the driving force and organizer of the Time Trial Series. Series 2 was on the calendar for May, because Ray wanted to run it. When he moved, it got dropped because no one else had the desire to organize it.
dgaddis1: If you want to take the lead and organize/run the Time Trial Series, contact our President, Paul. It seemed like the people who participated in it last year had a great time. I was out of town when it started, so wasn't involved and can't tell you the specifics. In addition, Paul might be able to give you the times from last year's series. They were posted, but I don't know if anyone saved them.
I haven't paid a lot of attention to my times on all the loops on FATS, but I know that I have done the Brown Wave and Skinny in 77 minutes (from the parking lot). The Brown Wave is my favorite loop.
