My wife's family lives in Augusta and we are coming down for a few days around Easter...we've been reading about the FATS trail and wanted to check it out! A group of us from the Raleigh Sorba Chapter (TORC) had planned a trip down in January but the trail closure killed that idea... I see the trails are now open, but I'm curious as to how well they held up to the winter rains, poachers, etc... Honestly, when I first read about FATS, saw some video and then read about the closures and mud, the first thought that popped into my head was "Tsali!" By what I've read, I am assuming that the closures are a way to help prevent the new trails from becoming a rutted, muddy mess? ...Just curious as to what the story is. If it does rain before we come down, can anyone suggest an alternative trail? Also...how Singlespeed friendly is FATS? ;D

FATS held up great. The Deep Step loop (last one built) has a few long soft spots. It is the only loop that will take a beating from ALOT of traffic.
The closure from Jan 9- March 25 was a good thing for the trails. Hopefully we don't have to do this next year. We'll wait and see.
Should be rockin' at Easter.

If it does rain before we come down, can anyone suggest an alternative trail? Sorry to be so ADD on these answers. Other trails. Bartram. Modoc. Hickory Knob. Baker Creek. Canal. Horn Creek. Turkey Creek. Wine Creek (may not be a great choice - alot of trees down I think).
