I went into the Jr Brown section of the BW yesterday. This is the section just before/after the powerlines w/ all the big dips. I cleaned out 8 spots holding water. Of the 8, I armored 2 of them. Neither armor job I did was adequate, but it's all the rock I could gather with a bag and a bob trailer. There simply isn't alot of rock in this area.
These spots are seeps. Everyone of them had surface water again when I left. Alot less water, but water nonetheless - and enough to make them soggy when the next 30-50 riders come thru there. If it isn't raining, this water has to be coming from the ground. These places all need rock in them or they will probably always be wet when the water table is up. I left them so that there was no berm on the low side, but as wheels go thru them I think the soft tread will give way and another berm will form - and the soft tread will hold water again.
It took me only about 3 hours to do these 8 spots by myself. I think if we can get organized, GPS the locations of the problem areas and go in there with 8-10 groups of 2-3 people, we can make the Brown Wave just about bomb proof in 4-5 hours. We will need to move alot of rock to really do it right. Fortunately, most of the rock movement is downhill. I think we will need all the rock bags and the powerwagon. Long Cane's
4-wheeler is not here, so we can't use it. If we can't get one or two big volunteer days, then perhaps we can get folks to organize themselves into smaller groups and knock out sections of it.
Step one is getting all the spots located. I'll do that this coming Saturday. How about we say Jan 7 at 10AM, we try to get a group out to the Brown Wave. Who's in? Please email me at wmvic32 at aol dot com if you want to help.
