I meet some guys at the trail head that were complaining about not having the trail marked and no maps.I told them that we were in the process of getting the trail marked and that you could download the map off our website.(Trying to be the super nice guy that I am).So than I started to get attacked on how and why we need to mark the trails and that they couldn't find the maps on the website and to top it off how stupid it was to close the trail the first 2 weeks of November so they rode it anyway because they had traveled so far.
I guess people will find anything to complain about and disrespect the rules, some people are never happy.
Maybe I should keep my mouth shut and not try to help?
If people keep acting like that maybe we don't need to mark the trails.I don't get lost maybe thats all I need to care about?

The most disturbing thing is ignoring the trail closed signs and riding anyway - because he had driven so far. There are at least 30 miles of trail w/in 30 minutes of FATS.
Had we not agreed to a 2 week deer season closure, the trails may not have been built.
That would have been stupid.
I agree the signs need to go up. Perhaps next time these two gentleman are around they will help put them up. Yeah right.
I like building trails for people to ride. But folks like these two test put that to the test (as much as the locals that won't help us do).

Disturbing, but we know we are going to hear/deal with people like this.
For every two Jackhazzes like these, I will betcha we have over a hundred good guys/gals. The last several Sundays have seen the parking lot packed beyond anything I ever imagined. We have had more people in the parking lots recently than we had on opening ceremony. We have people from out of the area that read the website, ask questions on the forums, and actually act like responsible mountain bikers.
I started opining this morning about desiring a meeting with those idiots in the parking lot one day, but then I deleted it... I am trying to show the softer side of Michael here...It must be the Christmas spirit...Nah.

And on the other side was the first time we went up to ride at Dupont. Even with some maps it was difficult at best to determine where to turn and where to go and how to get back to where you were going.
Many times you go ride a trail and without local help you are at a loss as to how to even find the trailhead (there was a time when we all were new to the sport or the trail). First time to most of the trails around here it was difficult to find the trailhead and you really weren't sure where to go if it wasn't obvious and that was one reason we started the Explore the Trail Series to get folks out and checking out what is availalble.
Granted they could have been much more polite and much more tolerant but come on - look at all of us - we've kind of grown on each other over the years - some of us can be pretty hard to take until you know us too!! Unfortunately some people have low frustration levels.

I noticed that there are some new signs up. I showed a father/son team from Florida, how to get to the brown wave. What seems to be confusing is that there are two parts of the SKINNY trail that end up in the same place. Once they realize it they are OK. In fact I have led several groups to the junction of the Skinny and the Brown wave.

If ya start up the hill, ya end up crossing all the same roads ya would if ya started down the hill. If ya start on the Skinny, you will end up at the Brown Wave intersection. One direction it takes 4 miles and the other direction takes 2 miles. How many people were out there today that you saw?
