If we all (say 50 people did it) put a small pair of handheld clippers in our camelbacks/jerseys, and clipped the first three stickers that hit us or we had to try to avoid hitting.
You clip the first three per ride and that's it. I bet in a month, the sticker bushes that are encroaching on the loops would be cut back. We could at least make dent in them.

Would this have anything to do with that freakish scar on your face? ;D

Would this have anything to do with that freakish scar on your face? ;D Pure coincidence ;D Actually I have been thinking about the miles out there - alot of miles of trail. I am starting to see a few spots that are being encroached upon by thorny vegetation. Not large swaths of trail, but mostly a thorny branch here and there. If we start now on this vegetation, perhaps we can avoid seeing entire loops being "closed" because they are so uncomfortable to ride thru a bunch of stickers hanging out on the trail. Then I saw Angela's newsletter email and it reminded me that I had given some thought to this before. A crazier idea. We put 5 handheld clippers on the kiosk. You grab one when you go out, clip your 3 branches and put them back on the kiosk. Only downside is I could see alot of folks innocently forgetting they took the clippers with them and within a week, we'd have no more clippers.

Funny...I was recently thinking of doing just that. Not just at FATS...other places are in need of a bit of pruning as well.
You don't, of course, mind if i cut more than my share of 3...do you? ;D

I carry handheld clippers from time to time when I think about it and I do use them. Mainly carry them because I had gotten into the bad habit of grabbing things as I rolled by and snapping them off and innocently conked one of my friends on the head all in the name of trail maintenance.......then no one wanted to ride behind me!! It really is a good thing because sometimes I have to stop while someone deals with a mechanical and I try to do a little trail grooming while I wait. Another great time - when you take a slower or inexperienced rider out it is a great way to "wait" for them without making them feel bad and everybody wins!!!!

I figured my legs and the inside of my elbows were doing a fine job of ripping the thorns off the branches. You wear a pair of shorts around town and people just stare at your legs and arms! Michael P.S. Good idea Bill. The better half and I had already decided to pick up a compact set of clippers and keep them handy for just this reason. When your forearms and shins are bleeding profusely after every ride, then it is time to do something.

I stumbled across this last night. It's a pretty neat saw that's only 6-7" long when folded. It retails for around $30 and is said to last for quite a while. Here's the site. www.silkysaws.comCheck out the Pocket Boy
