Rode the canal trail last night (3/26/13) it was in great shape considering all the rain we got last weekend… Only a few small limbs down that were easily moved. The trail is super fast and tacky with only a handful of soft corners.
Also the rain seamed to help pack in the soft dirt on the new reroute at the two way section, it’s a lot faster now

Big thanks to everyone who worked on building the re-route. It's good, and it's great that the trail no longer has a two way section! Will certainly make the canal crown go faster. Michael is right, the trail is primo right now. Perfecto!

We were out on the trail a few days back (there is a work party scheduled at the end of the month) check out this video! The erosive power of water (riders can cause erosion by riding the trails when wet but Mother Nature is a force to be reckoned with too) Turtle season is near - we'll be seeing those strange holes in the trails soon as the turtles begin laying their eggs!

Don't forget the Canal work party this Sunday May 26th at 8:00am. Meet at the Goodrich St gate at 8:00am sharp. We will all go in together and lock the gate behind us. If you are late, you can park at the Eisenhower field and walk in.
Bring gloves, water, bug spray, we will have the DR mowers, gas hedge trimmers, weed eaters and lopping shears. You can bring any personal tools if you would like to.
See you on the trail,
John Pilcher

The trail has taken a hit from all the rain this summer. The Wet Spot is really wet, even last night there was standing water. This is the spot where there used to be two lines going around that little tree to the right, one line on each side. Now there's just one line, because of this. That's a limb that broke off the tree in the background (center of the image) about 30ft up in the air, and swung down and landed on the trail. This will need cutting out at some point I'm sure. Another part of the trail fell off into the canal. The tree fell in, and took a good chuck of the land with it. Trail is still rideable, just need to be paying attention to where you're going. Approaching going CCW. The tree.
