Two rounds down, two more to go. We raced counter clockwise tonight, and 25 riders gambled against the rain and mother nature smiled on us. Kim J and I rode from AJBW to the trail, and got rained on the whole way almost, it finally stopped right before we reached the singletrack. When we rode the course marking lap, it was pretty slippery, but not really muddy and no standing water except in two spots that tend to stay wet all the time. A hour later, when it was time to race, the trail had dried up a good bit and was surprisingly fast with just a few slick corners. We got lucky, and no rain!
We need more beginner and sport riders, the Expert group has somehow grown into the largest group by a factor of more than two tonight. The race for the title of Canal King is fierce however, several riders are all fighting for the top spot and are not far apart.
The somewhat slippery conditions slowed things down, and shifted some weight towards the technical bike handling skills and away from pure aerobic and muscle motor power. Big props to Drew and Chuck - they were only two and seven seconds (respectively) slower this week compared to last.
Special thanks to Daniel Allen for directing people at the fork, and Michael Dunn for helping with timing.
Enough with the chit chat, on to the results!
