Big day today. 17 of us meet up at the hwy283 end of Wine Creek this morning at 10am and rode to the other end of Modoc. 11 of us rode the same way back. A few people only rode one direction, and a few others took the road around instead of the trails. It took us right at 6hrs including all the pit stops and waiting to regroup stops. Not bad at all. I averaged 10mph while moving today...that's a dang good day for me on those trails, especially with the leaf cover slowing things down. Wine, Turkey, and Modoc all got a lot of wheels today and the tread looks good, nice and ridden in. The colors are past their peak, for the most part. But there were still some spots that were just on fire. Here's a few pics. A sign of things to come? Pit stop #1 on FS-617. TedS. is the man for setting this up. Near the Modoc trailhead. Pit stop #2 at the Modoc trailhead. dsquared and paul are also the men for setting that one up. Near the 5.5 mile mark on Modoc. Hope everyone got out to ride this weekend!

Great ride with great folks. Loved chasing the turkeys down the gravel road. Didn't realize they could run so fast.

Particularly exciting to see so many riders out enjoying those trails - for a very long time they were "the" jewels of the CSRA - love seeing this - I'd say one of the top ride stories of the year! How far is it one way, 25 or so? Love the pictures, the leaves are gorgeous, if this doesn't make others want to go ride this route nothing will! I would have been dragging up the rear but sitting here and looking at those woods and that group of riders I would have loved to have been there.

That was excellent today. One of the better rides of the year, with some great friends many of whom I don't get to ride with much anymore. I think 9 of the 17 were from Greenwood or beyond.
Amazing that many people covered those miles with no major issues.
I am glad to check that one off the list. I hadn't done the full connector both ways in a long time. Someone asked...I think Dustin said it was 52.4 miles. That seems right to me.

52.4 is the round trip correct?
A few years back did Wine Turkey Wine twice for a total of just at 50 miles and commented then my time was just at what it takes when we do a century road ride - sounds like today was like that!
We both have colds so just did Great Wall - great temps and fall color and saw one of the biggest turkey gobblers I have ever seen - no hens just him and again - moving very, very fast.

Yep, 52.44 miles round trip.
I was amazed the group stuck together as well as we did for that big of a ride.
