It's in two weeks. Anyone else going? I know mosovich and TedS. are going, Nitro is a maybe. We're all doing the 50 mile, not the big boy 100. Really looking forward to this race. This will be my 3rd time going, done the 50 mile each time. In '08 it took me 6.5hrs, I was cramping bad the last half of the race and had to put my chain back on the front chainring after every downhill. Last year it was a suck/mud fest, it took me 6.5hrs to go 30 miles then I DNF'd and took the gravel road back to the car. Looking for redemption this year, shooting for a sub 6hr time. We'll see how that works out. The course is slightly different this year, new start/finish location. I'm glad we get a short warm up before hitting the big climb of the day, in the past we started with the climb and I hate that, never could get settled into a nice rythmn. There's also an alternate rain route that stays off the singletrack. Supposedly there's 10,000+ft of climbing in the 50 mile lap....I find this hard to believe. I'm sure it's a lot, but not 10,000ft. There's gold in them there hills!

I'll be there for the 50 also. Around 6 to 6.5 hrs I'm thinking. With a little luck.

Four speeds: spin, grind, push, stand by the trail and vomit on my shoes. But yes.

Haha, I've never done it SS. I'm not that stupid lol. Last year I had the jabberwocky set up 1x9 but this year I'll be on the Scandal with a full 3x9 drivetrain.

Thanks. It was a good day. But the real congrats goes to the organizers and the folks who maintain those trails. A classy, well-run race on some really amazing single track.

Wooglin - you, and everyone else that showed up a SS, are nuts! No way I could have done it on a SS. Not without a TON of walking anyways. I used every gear on my bike and was extremely thankful for all of them.
Good job to TedS and mosovich as well. Expectedly, I lost sight of Ted on the neutral roll out of the starting area and didn't see him again till I finished. Mosovich and I rode together for a ways, then he pulled ahead, then I caught him and we rode together for about 10 miles I think, then I had a slight mechanical and wasn't able to catch back up.
That was a great day on the bike. The trails were all super fun. I finished the 54 miles in 6hrs 10mins and was happy with that. Didn't quite make my sub-6hr goal, but I couldn't have done it any faster. No cramps, no crashes, and no major mechanicals. Lots of fun, a good time indeed. A few random thoughts:
-Specialized Fast Trak LK tires are great, nice combo of grip and speed, BUT, in high speed gravel road descents they're sketchy as can be! -22T chainrings are awesome. I have a hard time believing a 2x10 drivetrain would be as friendly in the mtns. -As much as I complain about the noise/vibration I usually get from my Elixer brakes they were great on Saturday, never over heated, only squealed in the rain, never left me wanting for more power, and you only need one finger to use 'em which left the rest of my fingers to hang on for dear life -some people are just crazy stupid unbelievably fast. The winner of the 100 mile race finished in 7hrs 11mins - only took him 61 minutes to ride 50 miles further than I did. -If you haven't found a drink mix you like yet, try Gatorade G-Pro. I mix it way weaker than they recommend, otherwise it's too sweet. Even mixed at 1/3rd the recommended dose it's still a stronger taste than HEED -my climbing legs aren't that great but I'm much faster on the singletrack and descents than many of my fellow racers - I passed a TON of people on the gravel road descents and didn't get passed by anyone, and didn't get passed by anyone on singletrack unless I was stopped to eat. Climbing however, I got passed much more than I passed others. -between SAG 2 and 3 I had my slowest average speed - 6.9mph. Between 3 and 4 I averaged 8.1mph and between 4 and the finish I averaged 12mph. There was a lot of singletrack and a good bit of climbing between 2/3 and some pavement between 4/finish.
