Stay tuned for further details but looks like we will have Phase II of the Turkey Creek/Wine Creek Mowathon on Sunday, July 17th and the Boyd Pond Workparty on the following Saturday, July 23rd. A lot of the work on the trails this year have involved chain sawyer work because of the storms. Both of these work parties offer opportunities to do other kinds of trail work. Please volunteer - we have a lot of trail to choose from in this area (150 miles of singletrack) but the trails are only as good as the volunteers who help keep them maintained. You don't have to be a member of SORBA to step up and help! Thank you........

Meet at Key Bridge at 6:30AM.
We will have 3 DR mowers there and 3 hedgers. Chainsaw crews.
Plan: Send 1 hedger and 2 people to boardwalks, and they hedge toward Key Bridge. Turn around at creek and then return to car. Drive over to middle of Wine Creek, walk in, turn right on trail (south) and hedge to broken bridge. Return to car. Done.
1 DR and 1 hedger goes in Turkey at Key. Mows to FS 618 and back. Load up and drive to 283. Mow to big dip and back. 4 people
2 DR's and 1 hedger go into Wine at Key Bridge. Mow to broken bridge and back. 6 people.
That is 12 people needed for the above. The extra person for each piece of equipment has loppers/handsaw and switches off running the DR or hedger.
Chainsaw crews will go into Turkey to start but I would think will have to go into Wine as well. Hopefully someone rides Wine and maybe Turkey before we go in. We have til next Saturday to get the scouting done.
BV, MD, M. Hanna, DK, Jon T, Paul F, Jeff R, J Pace, J Weekly+3, Tom Z, Ted S (is a maybe) in so far. We need at least 5 more.

There is a chance of rain all through the week but if it will be clear on the morning of the 17th and with the high projected at 85 for the day it should be great weather for a work party. In the past some riders have brought their bikes and ridden once the trail work was done. The weather should be perfect for that temperature wise if the rain holds off. If you haven't taken the time to ride these trails before this will be a great opportunity. Volunteer for a few hours and then enjoy the trail afterwards.

Went over the volunteer needs at the meeting tonight and with two chainsaws, 3 hedgers, and 3 DR mowers we need a minimum of 16 people to get this work party off the ground. There won't be a phase three because in August we need to turn our attention to getting Horn Creek ready for the Baker's Dozen. Please check your calendars and come out to volunteer - the high for Sunday looks like it will be in the 80s so that morning should be in the 70s during the work party. Perfect day for working (bring your bike and enjoy the fruits of your efforts afterward). Email sorbacsra@gmail.com and let me know if you are coming!

sadly, im unable to make this work party, i'll be out of town. work parties always get scheduled when im working or out of town Not true! You made the New Bartram work party for armoring that deep gully. However, many times we (me and the SO) prefer to just make our own work party. There's always plenty out there that needs to be done. Especially now that we have so many miles of trails, there's always something... MD

You made the New Bartram work party for armoring that deep gully. MD that's true, and I had a good time! It just seems that every time a work party is scheduled, I'm working....if anybody wants/needs a hand for an informal work party, send me a message, I'd be glad to help out!

I rode thru Wine yesterday, and it was a mess.
I rode thru Wine today and it was sweet.
The work the Drawdy's did was amazing, really. After I passed them, and saw what they had ahead of them, I didn't think it would get done in a day with one saw. Thank you.
A crew of 3 went in with a gas hedger and loppers and did the most northern part that needs work, all the way to the north side of the broken bridge. I gotta say the hedger work in there today was nothing short of spectacular. I rode that with my nose on my stem yesterday, and today, it was a cleared tunnel.
Another crew of 4 went in at Key Br with a DR, gas hedger and loppers. They went to south side of broken bridge. 2 man crew from Greenwood came and ran a second DR back and forth to same spot. The south end of Wine Creek is a freeway. It needs wheels. I saw an armadillo....first one ever on a trail.
Another crew went into Turkey with DR, gas hedger and loppers. DR and hedger went to first switchback and back. Loppers went from Key to boardwalks. DR and hedger then moved to boardwalks and went to creek. This is a freeway now. Really everything that got mowed today is a freeway now as far a stinging nettle and other vegetation go.
Jon Taylor and David K cleaned up Modod yesterday. Sounds like The Connector is calling my name, loudly. Can do The Dark Star Loop now as well.
Yesterday we had the Allens and the Drawdy's running chainsaws to clear the trails for the mowing. Today we had....Nevin and Becky Lambert, Sheri and Phillip West, Ken Young, Jon Taylor, Mark Hanna, John Weekly, John Pilcher, David and Mattew K, Lee Tilton, Tom Zeazer, Jeff Ronan, John Pace and me. Good group. We got alot done. Thank you for coming out.
